All, I have been looking for the Weaver Grand Slam 4,75x40 Scope. The Modell has been discontinued and I have not been able to locate on in the US, the UK and continental Europe. This has become a fun thing for me. I can picture a hunting situation here in GER where such scope would be just the ticket. Of course, a Leupold 6x42 would not do at all... Actually, that would be the goto, but first, for the fun of it: Has anybody got one Weaver GS 4.75x40 in good optical condition and is willing to part with it? Thank you.

I've got one but really not wanting to part with it. I will tell you it's a NICE piece of optics but is kinda short on eye relief and the ring mounting space is short. My opinion is that it's a GOOD scope for a short action rifle, chambered for a round that doesn't recoil too heavily. If I do find one I'll let ya know. Almost forgot! If you find one you may want to make sure it was a pre-Meade scope. When Meade bought Weaver from Blount they changed lens suppliers and weren't as good. Have the dealer look on the bottom of the box for the Blount nomenclature.

Just wondering if you saw them on sale at Natchhezss a year ago like me. I knew I would be kicking myself for not buying one at that price. If you find one- please try it out and tell us about it.

I had one, & sent it down the road on a rifle I never warmed-up to.
The scope seemed OK, but not great. About worth the price I paid from Natchez. My Conquest 4x40 is the only other fixed to which I could compare it: it didn't compare.

For the money the GrandSlams are very good, and I have been very happy with the quality. I wouldn't expect a GS to compare with a conquest as most people agree the conquest line is better than the varix-III to the VX-3. I see a 4x32 Conquest retails over $350.
When I was looking at scopes in this power range for the money I was comparing the Leupold 4x33 to the GS 4.75x40. The Leupold has longer eye relief,is a longer scope, and 1 oz. lighter. IMO...the GS is optically better, has better turrets, and a fast focus eye piece.
The thing I like about Weaver is that with the introduction of the GrandSlam line a few years back was they showed that good optics could be made for less money, and actually rival the offerings of the time up to $500 for a 3-10x40. The other player was the Bushnell 4200 which was a little more money but also raised the bar. For many years Leupold had no competition till then and now...well I think that is why the optics forum is so popular.
