I got box of "stuff" from Midway yesterday. One of the items is a Redding full length sizer die. I was going to take it apart for cleaning prior to ironing some brass. I noticed the decapping pin/sizer wasn't centered, or even close, in the body die. I started to unscrew the decapping pin and watched the stem revolve. It is a long way from concentric! How do I determine if it's the decapping rod or the threads in the die that are wrong?

I don't have another die here to borrow a decapping pin/sizer, bummer.

Did you align it? They all 'wobble' when not tight and/or screwing them out.

Only needs be be centered when snugged up.

The decapping pin is bent as evidenced by the end of the stem rotating around in a concentric pattern. If the die threads were tapped off center the stem would rotate in one spot off the center of the die. Does that make sense?

Whith the threads clean, and pin screwed "snug", it's .020-.030 off center.

Or the threads on the "cap" part that holds the decapping rod could be off center.

Decapping rods won't align by themselves and they have the Jimmy legs when loosened.

Maybe I ain't following it but it seems it just needs to be aligned.

no, ruined a case though...as I study it, it looks like the sizing botton is crooked on the decapping rod.

To be clear I should say maybe the threads on the outside of the cap and the decapping rod are nonconcentric. One, the other, or both could be off center relative to the die body. Either way this will produce a "pin wobble" even if the die body is perfect and the decap rod is straight.

I'm surprised no one has suggested calling RCBS customer service (1-800-533-5000) and referring the question to them. Whenever I've had a problem, they have been quick to solve it. Once, they sent me a new die and requested that I send the old one back, but I had the new die in 3 days.

Unless some of the above advice doesn't solve the issue, call.

Yep, probably better call those that made it, although I'll bet RCBS would try to help. They have been very good any time I called them about a problem with "their" products.
