I've kilt somewhere around a dozen whities with those 240gr Hornady XTP's. They expand nicely and I've yet to recover one. Never had the need to put more than one hole in a deer using the XTP, none went more than 100yds or so.

It's my choice for a 44 mag wheelgun.

I load 210gr Rem hollow points over 12gr of WSF. Not a really fast load but it works on deer and only kills on one end.

I like Hornady's 300gr XTP. Very accurate and hits like a freight train. I bought some Hogue grips for my SBH, as the standard grips get uncomfortable when practicing with hunting loads. They dont look real nice, but they are much easier to shoot with.

I tend to favor hard-cast boolits, I currently shoot a 290-grain HCSWC "Keith-style," and I like to top out with boolits in the 300-310 grain range, but any good 240 will work, even a hollow point.

This is a 250gr lead bullet. I like them. Used it and got a complete diagonal penetration lenghtwise through the deer. Only running it at 1350 pfs out of my SRH 44 mag.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

I've used a Nosler 240gr soft point and an RCBS 245-SWC cast bullet dropped out of wheel weight alloy. Both worked well ahead of a near max load of W296. The cast bullet shot through two shoulders and the jacketed was through the base of the neck so it's not really fair to compare bullet performance. Neither required any tracking.

I lost a deer shot with the XTP, switched to the Nosler Partitions. I really don't think that the XTP is a deer or hog bullet, too fragile. I was shooting them in a Marlin Rifle.

I will disagree with you on that. I've used the 240 grain .44 XTP in revolvers and rifles and killed a number of deer with them. I've also used the 210 grain .41 in revolvers. I load them (the .44's) over stiff loads of H-110. Several friends who use them in revolvers and rifles have been very satisfied with this bullet on deer. Expansion seems to be sudden but very limited. Through and through penetration is the norm. I suspect that if you lost a deer you hit with a 240 grain .44 XTP you didn't hit it right.

What weight were you using?Out of a rifle, the 180 or maybe 200 might be a little soft, but should still work.At revolver velocities, XTP's are anything but fragile.

I caught a deal on 265gr Hornady RNFP's and shared them between a 44 mag mountain gun and my Marlin 1894ss. Satisfied all around. There may be better bullets but so far, no complaints. Propellant of choice is H110 and second is 296 as a friend gave me an 8# jug to play with... I need to get a Super BH someday soon...
