Anyone using them? I have a couple of Panors but all are the conventionl 4 groove. Also any comments on Brux? The smith I have picked for a build really likes them but I have not heard alot about them.

Run a few 3 grooves and they are just fine.

Just had a custom 280 ackley with a pac nor 3 grove s/s in a 24"
tube. Have about 25 rounds shot. So far I love it.

Have several 3 groove Pac Nors....from 20 VT to 6XC..having a new 260 AI 8T/3groove built as we speak..28" x 1.118" w/no taper/straight pipe....all mine clean well & fast and spin the bullet out fast too...

I have a three groove Lilja on my heavy bench .223. It shoots well, but I have had 4 groove barrel shoot just as well. Probably because I am not a good enough shooter to be able to tell the difference. So far, so good though. Supposedly they last longer as the lands are each a bit thicker and thus not going to degrade in their ability to impart consistent spin as soon in the wear cycle. Since my heavy .223 is used to pop ground squirrels by the hundreds on a good day I decided to give this idea a try.

I have a 3 groove Pacnor, and factories in 4 grooves, and 6 grooves. I have not noticed a difference between them. Like was posted prior, I bought a 3 groove on the theory that the lands would last longer on a hot gun (22-250AI).

I have a Remington 700 BDL 22-250 early 1970's in excellent cond. I believe the twist is 1-14" and does not shoot the heavies well. I have always wanted to Ackley the rifle but don't want to only to shoot 60gr or larger bullets. Maybe you already said but what twist is your PacNor barrel, length and your velocities. thanks

Thanks guys, this will be for a fast twist .243 shooting the 115gr slugs, Im hoping the thicker lands will help the throat last a little longer.

How many round's do you have down the barrel???
I went the exact same route on the same theroy, let me be a"MYTH BUSTER" I have or have had many 22-250AI's, I have my own reamer and fireforming barrel's. I have found the 3 groove MYTH that you get longer barrel life (throat life) BUSTED BIG TIME.
In fast twist 3groove barrel's the land is wider so when it starts to firecrack it is much rougher on the bullet jacket than a 4,5 or 6 groove barrel. it is more forgiving in the smaller cases like a 223rem for example because firecracking in the throat is delayed because of the smaller powder capacity and the lower velocity is easier on the bullet jacket. the larger the case capacity the quicker the velocity and the faster the twist the worse a 3groove becomes. I wont state exact shot count but I get about twice the barrel life with a 22-250IMP using a Krieger 4groove 1-8" twist or Shilen 6groove 1-8"twist over Pac-Nor 3groove 1-8"twist. If you shoot the 75gr AMax when they start to blow up you can extend barrel life by switching to Sierra's (they have a much tougher jacket).
The 3groove theroy in slow twist barrel's is plausible, the 3groove theroy in fast twist barrel's BUSTED.

My 22-250 AI and my Lilja 3 groove .223 cal barrels are 1 in 14 twist. Reason? I like to push 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenades REALLY FAST and watch little rodent creatures turn into little pink clouds!! MooooAHhahahahahahah!!! These bullets, BTW, are the cats meow for all things small and varminty.

One does not have to go fast twist to enjoy the benefits of AI'ing a 22-250, though most probably do. You still get higher velocity and FAR less brass stretching requiring trimming etc with the AI'ed case. I have several AI'ed guns including a .348.

Boatanchor, thanks for the report. My Lilja is my first 3 groove and I dont count how many rounds I shoot in a year. I will just shoot it until it won't shoot well anymore then get another tube screwed in but your experiences will have me watching this more closely.

I've got a couple and think they're fine, although I can't tell you how long they last as compared to a 4 or 5 groover. One I used to own, on a #1B on 270 Wby, was the most accurate sporting weight rifle I have ever seen. It was built by Greydog and would average 3/8" at 100, I [bleep] you not.

I think enough of them that at present I have two barrels ordered from PN, a #2 in 25 cal and a medium palma for a heavyweight 223AI; they're both 3 groovers.

I have had excellent luck with barnes TTSX bullets. One of the reasons I love my 22-250 is for the pink cloud. (grin) I have not tried the grenades yet. Spring is just around the corner, I will load some up and try them out on some critters.

Mine is a 12 twist. I shoot 55's, and that was the goal when I built it. There is a craze around here for super fast twists, and heavys, but not for my applications. I imagine a 12 will shoot 60's no problem. My velocities are around 3900, with a 24" tube.

Only time will tell, and I don't plan on taking it to any dogtowns, so heat won't be an issue. Like I posted above, mine is a 12 twist, and I don't shoot heavys. I grab my 243 if I want something heavier.

Love my Lilja 3-groove, 1:11 twist in 30-06 Ackely Imp. Lilja turned it down to "toothpick" dimensions for me and it still shoots quite well.

I have or have had rifles with Lilja, Douglas, Krieger, Brux and Shilen barrels on them. All have been great barrels, but from now on I will only put Brux barrels on. They are an outstanding cut-rifling barrel that shoots extremely well. Your gunsmith will not have to wait forever to get a barrel and they are priced right. Their turnaround from the time you order is weeks, not long months. Google Brux Barrels to see more comments about their barrels or to see their website. You will not be disappointed with their product. They back up their barrels and want you to be happy with them. Their main business is with the benchrest shooters and that in itself tells you something. Their tapers are along the same lines as Krieger.
