Time to buy new tires. I drive a 2001 Silverado HD short bed 4x4. It is my daily driver and weekend use on the lease/hunting trips. Lease is mostly dry dirt/with some rocks and lots of typcial texas thorns to deal with. It can slick up if it rains, but not all that common. Some moderate winter/ice driving. Some of out of state trips can be a lot more demanding (snow/mud) so would like to be prepared. With this is mind I'm looking for all terrain tires that give me some decent offroad capability, but work well on the road. Last 2 sets have been 285 75 16 Bfgoodrich TAs. I have no complaints and they have worn well for me, but mainly bought these as they are common and the major retailers. My cousin is recommending I get Cooper Discoverer STs as he says they are more tire for the money than the BFGoodrich. Any review of the Coopers (not much in net about them)? Anything else I should be considering or just stick with what works (BFGoodrich)?

i sell coopers, i run coopers and i recomend coopers. the ATR is a excellent tire along with the ST my next set on my pu will be st's i run the old style cooper LT but they are being discontinued this year the ST is getting redesined but looks like it will be even better, if you want to go a little better quality look at the Bridgestone REVO hell of a tire but for my uses and from what you say you need go with the ATR or ST

I just put a new set of tires on my F-150 this fall. I ended up going with 265/75 16 Goodyear wrangler TD's. I went with them mainly because the price was right. I have to say that they have been pretty good so far. I live in Minnesota and we get it all...mud, snow, ice. If money were no object I would have went with BFG AT T/A KO's. I had a set of those on a previous truck that I owned and I thought they were awesome. I had a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT's once and they were one of the worst tires I've ever owned.

I bought a set of Mastercraft Courser A/T 2 tires for my Ram. They're made by Cooper. So far I'm very happy with them.

I've had great luck with my current set of Goodyear MTR tires on Dodge diesel 4x4. I've run the BFG mud tire in the past, and these Goodyears are blowing them away. So far, they have lasted longer, get better traction, and seem to balance better. Take it for what it's worth, but I'll be buying them again.

I've about worn out my second set of Cooper Discoverer ATR's (first set was the AT's). 60,000 miles on the first set, and this second set looks like its going to further. The next set will be the same, although they keep going up in cost. A lot of my friends and family buy the Cooper Discoverer's, and I recommend them. My dad's coworker bought some cosmetic blemishes that were quite a bit cheaper.

BFG's and Bridgestone Duller-Revos, have been real good tires for me.

Really, it would boil down to who gave me the best price, because I like them both alot.

I would stay away from Goodyear if you're going to do much driving on gravel or anything where a stick or rock could punch your tire.

+1 on the BFG's AT's. So far they've been THE BEST for me on ice, which we get ALOT of. I recently got a Cherokee w/a new set of Michelin LTX M/S tires on it. They seem to be pretty good so far.

Great tire! In fact, best tire I have ever put on a truck!!

Had Goodyears on my wifes truck and they wore out at 55% of their mileage rating........never again.

Just bought a set of Michelin LTX MS tires for my Dodge Ram 2500. I used them hunting on the first week I had them, in ice and snow.
Traction was unbelievable- I was getting around in 2WD while other rigs were sliding in 4WD, in the same stuff!!

This is the third set of Michelins on this truck. These drive differently than the earlier ones- max inflation pressure is listed at 35#, where I used to run the others at around 45#.

I'm impressed by their off-road performance, in the white and icy stuff.

If you do look at the mud tires the goodyear mtr's is what I had and reallly liked. I couldn't believe how long they lasted for a mud tire. Got an honest 45-50K out of them.

Replaced them with the revo's though as I am commuting farther now with the truck.

I 4x4 my Tacoma in the rocks pretty hard. I've had great luck with Cooper STTs. Work well in the mud and snow also. They aren't a true AT but more of a MT.

I have run a couple of different sets of Coopers and had good luck with them, they were cheaper than some of the other "name brand" tires out there. I know guys that have the BFG All-Terrains and love them, but they are not cheap. Although, depending on the size, none of the truck tires are very cheap IMO

Pretty much figure on at least $700 for decent truck tires. $500 if you know a guy.

I'd go with either the Michelin LTX AT2 or Toyo Open Country A/T

The Michelin will give the longest wear.

The Revo's are a good tire.

The Coopers are an OK tire but once they hit about 50% tread they turn to crap.

I have had a three sets of the Toyo AT's. Each set has gone 65000. I will be getting another set shortly. They ride much nicer then many of the other AT tires i have had.
