Since we are still beating this, I will have to agree with "E" for on of the rare occasions that this has occurred. 130 grain Bronze Point blew up on a calf elk at 50 yds (shoulder) and the calf walked off. My cousin finally shot him in the head with his rifle and killed it. There was no penetration into the chest cavity at all-just a hellacious nasty flesh wound on the shoulder.
I killed a smallish coues whitetail buck in Dec '85 with a 165 grain Ballistic Tip. The bullet ruined ALL four quarters and the deer was still fighting when I got up to him. I shot a second deer that year within a 1/4 mile of this spot with the same load (85 grains H4831, 300 WBY) and I blew the deers head COMPLETELY off his body! That was the last Ballistic tip I hunted with and the last neck shot I ever took!
The Bronze Point incident happened when I was about 14 and has jaded me again the .270 ever since. I haven't owned because if it! My dad still has some 30-06 factory ammo with these dreaded Bronze Points- good thing he doesn't hunt any more!
I also saw a 5x5 bull elk shot with a 150 Ballistic tip from a 30-06 (circa 1988). The bull dropped to the shot, massive blood stains on shoulder, got up and ran off. We tracked him for 300 yds where he joined a herd and his tracks were obliterated and was last seen a half mile away running with this herd. We never found him. I have no idea what his wound was but he should have folded shortly and didn't.
I warned them about those bullets but they were hooked on the sexiness of them and wouldn't give them up!

Can you believe those Lapua Naturalis bullets are $90.00 per 50?

Sierra 160 gr 7mm bullets have shown poor performance in my 284. Shot three deer with this bullet, two blacktails and a mulie, first blacktail took multiple hits behind the shoulder from about fifty yards, dead deer but lots of ruined meat, almost the same thing on the second blacktail. Mule deer shot behind the shoulder from about seventy five yards, no exit wound, lots of bloodshot meat, I prefer a bullet that exits but does internal damage.

Brad, I'd really like to know the particulars behind the photo. Cartridge, load, muzzle velocity, range, and test medium. Regards. RE

My vote goes to any bullet made, that's placed poorly.
