Gents,

Had a little bit of fun on the vice tonight coming up with some steelhead patterns.. Any predictions which color will produce the best? I'll let you know asap due to the fact that steelhead season is in full swing right now.

Master_Bonzi,

I'll take a stab at it. If the water color of the stream is clearer...#2 (from left to right) would be my choice. If coffee colored or a little off-colored, #'s 1 and 4. I'd save the black/orange one for dark, overcast skies and/or deeper water.

Are you fishing dead drift?

best,
bhtr

Bearhuntr,

Good analysis on the colors. I've been fishing marabou jigs beneath floats this week. I've had the most success on colors similar to #1. Today I did catch a good sized steelhead on color #2 in the morning. I'm not really sure if colors matter that much in the rivers I fish, because steelhead are so abundant. I just got back from a little late afternoon flyfishing with #1 and I had a steelhead just take my rod from me when he hit unexpectantly at the end of a drift. I missed the fish though.. My legs are still numb from wading though. Didn't plan on spending so much time in the water, so I didn't wear heavy fleece under my waders. I'm thinking I'll tie up some Easter colors for fishing in the morning....
