I can relate. I don't ever remember driving by Chas McCarthy's house w/out stopping in. On occasion we got in to see the Savage's. They were all tinkered with in some respect. Or at least that's how I remember it.
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Joe, here's a 1955 ad for Savages. Bottom left corner is an ad for the 99RS, cost $125. If the ads exist, I've got to believe the rifles do. Now, verifying for sure that one IS an RS is the tricky part. http://imagehost.vendio.com/bin/vie...9d49-3281e&sp=0&vsid=1&vgp=1

Rory, Thanks for the Vendio Image. I will put a copy of it with the RS. I feel better now. This is a 1949 gun, the date of the advertisement for the RS. That is good enough for me! If they were selling them in 1955, they were probably also selling them in 1949.

I wish J.C. would set up a paypal account and an email system so it wouldn't take so long.

Hey Chad, Beautiful rifle. Side note: We are going to be neighbors soon. More to follow. Jeff

That is one fine looking DL and I too would like to see more pics of! Custom wood? The checkering patteren is different from mine, which is also cut instead of pressed.
