I just joined the forum a few days ago so go ahead and add 15 to the score. These are mostly perch bellied 250-3000's, octagon and 1/2 round 303's, 300 Savage E's and a couple of 22 hp's.

Purchased a 99E in 300 savage in 1965 when I was 14 years old. I still have it along with a 99E in 308 and a 1952 99R in 300 Savage in real nice shape...

I have an 1899 22HP made in 1913 that has been handed down in the family since it was brand new. Also have a 99 243 I bought new in the early 60's. Would like to find a set of dies for the 22HP.

Welcome to the forum! Having that family 1899H in the family for this long is very cool.

The dies aren't cheap, but a reseller can probably knock quite a bit off the price if they have them in stock.

add one more, maybe; my father-in-law's old deer rifle; the best, er um, the second best thing he ever gave me; the only modification I can see is the butt plate having been removed and a recoil pad put on, don't know if that knocks this one off the list or not.

I found the serial # 738xxx, but not sure of the model letter, from the characteristics table on savage99.com it could be anyone of several. It has a: Pistol grip butt stock w/ checkering, schnoble tip forearm w/ checkering, metal Bead in raised ramp front site, a 24" barrel and .300 cartridges. Just above where the lever pivots there is what looks like a "C" but that doesn't seem to match up with the characteristics; Where do I look for the model letter?

unfortunately the butt plate has been removed and a recoil pad added so I can't look there. I do know its' a fine and beautiful piece of machinery. I've never hunted with it but have "removed" several stumps.

Welcome to the forum! There isn't a model letter, but there was only one model made with a schnabel at the time yours was made. It's a model 99EG, probably made in 1954. I'm guessing it's also drilled and tapped for a scope, with the Savage 99 on the front top of the receiver stamped to the side?

Very nice rifle, keep hold of that one. I hunt with a 99EG in 300, and they are a great deer rifle.

I definitely will hang onto it. '54 was the year I was born! My wife found my father-in-law's cleaning kit. The original butt plate was in there! The stock was cut flush to put the recoil pad on, so I'm on the look out for a pistol grip stock w/checkering. If any one has an idea where to find one please let me know. - thanks.

With modern CNC machining, I'm surprised that someone has not re-introduced the '99 again. I can think of a number of calibers that would be successful.

CNC machining would drastically reduce the manufacturing costs for a quality rifle.
