Its a .358 brush gun, matt blue ,
Schnaubell for arm williams peep. A few dings but in prety darn good shape.
have not shot it yet , but I bet with that strait stock it will grab my attention.
The only other one I have seen had a fold down rar sight, and I happen to have one. The cartridge counter works fine the action is quite crisp.
can you give an aproximate value ?
thanks ...tj3006

Nope, that gun is right, other than the sling studs. 99 A Saddlegun in 358, there are a few floating around out there. And no, it isn't listed in Murrays. That is about the 4th one I have seen. Les

As has been stated above, its not a Brush Gun but rather an uncataloged .358 A series Saddle Gun. Nice find in a post-mil. Lots of uncataloged Savage stuff as they seldom wasted anything but rather used up most anything that was still useful.

It is marked .Model 99 Series A on the barrel.
Anybody care to venture a guess at a value ?
I was thinking about trading it for an old 250/3000 Take down I saw at a local store.
But I might keep it as it would clearly be a very usfull rifle . Just add a sling and I can't imajine a better comapnion rifle for wilderness hikes.

You need to keep what you've got and try your best to make some kind of deal on the 250-3000. Down payment and layaway maybe. You can never have too many M99s and the .358 and the 250-300, plus of course the .300 Savage, are the cream of the crop.

I'm right handed so I usually lay a couple of left hand fingers on the top of the barrel when shooting from the bench. Seems to be just enough to hold it down and keep my right thumb from whacking my nose/lips.

Shouldn't be any problems offhand unless you scope it and crawl the stock. That's a good route for some stitches.

If I do scope it dale I would likly go a low power fixed like a 2.5 leupold.
But my plan is to shoot it with the Williams peep it has.
Gonna work up a load with some 180 grain speers I have that I bought about 25 years ago when I had a 10 inch contender in .357 Max.
I can't see using bullets much more than 200 grains.
I like speeds up around 2600 so I can shoot farther than I should with my 45/70.

tj, I like that one better than the brush rifle. Does it have a barrel address stamped? I have a friend that has one but, it doesn't have a barrel address and we assumed it had been rebarreled.

TJ,

Since no else wants to give you a price...its worth at least $800 and could go a lot higher if there was a collector looking for a rare "uncataloged" gun...now these are gunbroker prices... face to face prices tend to be lower.

The 250 is much more of a classic and tugs at the heart strings of the purist saveage guys.

Post some pics of the 250 and let the guys here tell you what they think...that gun could be worht anywhere from $200 to $2000

Did Leupold made a fixed 2.5 other than the Alaskan? Thats a rare scope and pricey when you do find one...
