i now own one in 260 with the detach mag. first order of business was to bed it, and float the barrel.
the previous owner told me it was shooting about moa.
i have tried 120 speers and 129 hornady's, so far. and the best it'll do with 3 different powders is about 2 inches or just under.

will post a pic of the groups later, yesterday i shot a better group if you take out the 2" flyer with bullets seated .010 off, but won't feed from the mag.

are you guys running pressured or floated on your barrels ??

never have had a great shooting pressured barrel, so all are floated...

i am going to remove the bit of bedding under the shank area to fully float the whole barrel, and try again, first, before trying a pressured barrel test.

and yes i let the thin lil barrel fully cool between shots, i spent some time at the range testing this lilte guy.

Yup, best not to change things on a lightweight rifle that is shooting moa would be my first thought. Had a mtn rifle that shot very well unbedded with factory pressure point. Had another that I decided to freefloat and bed which initially shot worse. Than I full length bedded it and it went back to moa or slightly better.

If your fully freefloated attempt doesn't improve things, you might try adding the pressure point back with some bedding near where the factory point was next. If no love, try the full length bedded. You'll get it shooting.

X2, my 280 Mtn shot well in its factory configuration. I'd probably try to put that pressure point back in there.

Mine in 7-08 is free-floated from the action on. It puts 140 ABs into less than an inch. Other 140 and 150 bullets have grouped into groups between 1-2". Whether a different bedding job would make things better or worse, I can't say. I've always prefered the free-floating method as I figure its more dependable. Good luck!

For the last few years I have been full-length neutral bedding thin barrels. I cannot like pressure points and avoid them until last-gasp time.

I have yet to see an accurate rifle hurt by neutral bedding and I have yet to see a pressure point bed job that made an inaccurate rifle truly accurate.

I have seen many rifles improve dramatically with neutral full-length bedding.

As another thing to consider, shooting lightweights is a lot touchier than shooting heavy rifles. There is no shame in asking someone with known good technique to test it...

What is "neutral?" Is it like Melvin Forbes's bedding?

I've got 4. All are glass bedded and pillared, free floated and shoot MOA. Not like your previous owner's MOA, either!!

I agree with Sitka. If my rifles don't shoot well floated or pressure pointed, I'll full length bed them. One way or another, they usually shoot well.

If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?
