If someone says, "He was fond of and very effective with his Remington 700 "C".....Just what the hell does that mean? smile

Thanks

Think Winchester M70 Supergrade. Big thing is nicer wood and sometimes polished blued over standard BDL.

That would make sense. C- Custom.

Thank you!

Carolina,

Originally Remington just had the standard grade. I believe this was back prior to the M-700 introductin in 1962. Then, they had the M-721 ADL. (ADL meaning: A-grade, Deluxe...)

When they came out with the M-700 they had the ADL and BDL ("BDL" meaning B grade, DeLuxe.)

For some unknown reason, when you came up one more grade, they were just referred to a "C-grade" There was also a "D" grade (Tournement grade or Peerless Grade) (Specially selected walnut and scroll engraving) and an "F" Grade. The "F" grade was known as the "Premier" grade and included engraving and gold inlay. I believe prices were about five figures. blush (Too rich for my pocket book...) Hope this is correct and helps answer your query...

I have owned a few "C" grades... At the moment is a .280, a .243 and a .375 sitting in the safe.

Well, here is what a "C" grade is:

http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/custom_shop/700/model_700_custom_c_grade.asp

It's a Custom Shop rifle but in reality the "C" refers to using "C" grade wood with upgrades.

Foxbat nailed it. I had one of those 700 "C" grades in 7mmRM, that I bought sometime in the late '70's. It was a beautiful rifle, with spectacular fiddleback wood. I chose to sell it back in the '80's, along with a lot of other guns I wish I had back, when I needed cash to fund a real estate investment. It makes me positively ill to see what they want for those "C" grades now! I'm not positive, but I think I paid $700 for the rifle with a Leupold Vari-X II 2-7 scope!!!! cry It may have been even less.

Talk is cheap. It takes money to buy whiskey.
