Does anyone have any source of info other than Brady's book? I just picked up a dandy 1893 in .32-40. It has a 20" barrel, no barrel band. It appears to be unmessed with. Measurements on the front sight and mag tube end from the muzzle are the same as other 1893's I have. Serial number is 437xxx, which makes it later than the 1893 designation.(according to Brady and Flaydermans) Special steel barrel, cased receiver, and carbine stock. Special order? Help!!!

Wes, I don't have any other source, but I have 10 1893 carbines, and spend alot of time looking for them. I'd like to see a picture of yours. It sounds like a short rifle. Does it look like this? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=120714788 This gun has an S buttplate. A carbine butt has 1 screw in the butt, and 1 on top. You could drift out the front sight, and see if it's blued under it. Dave
I've had all that I wanted of alot of things I've had, and alot more than I've needed of some things that turned out bad.
