Hi are there any detrimental effects to using Dacron filler in the 505 Gibbs? There are some nice loads published with RL-15 and Dacron filler, but I've also read some reports of "chamber ringing" and other things ...

I've been told it's not a good idea. A friend found the 505 was not amenable to reduced loads. He started getting "click,BANG" so he stopped fooling with reduced loads.

Done correctly, it works very well, just like anything in reloading.
A click...BANG needs Dacron filler, to FILL the space between bullet and powder. Mildly compress.
If your going to leave an airspace I don't think it matters what you use for filler, it will have the ability to ring the chamber....

The guy I'm talking about is an experienced reloader with everything from muzzleloaders and paper patched bullets to big bores. He couldn't find anything HE liked. Milage may vary.

The use of Dacron gives different people different results. I would tend to believe that this is because Dacron can be used with such wide variations in density. If you really pack it in then it will push up pressures. If you don't use enough it wont keep the powder near the primer.
It is hard to measure consistently. Some personalities can deal with this ambiguity, and for some it is too much of an obstacle to overcome.
I use it for my 416 with 5744. But I wish I could use the LEE technique for reduced loads instead, but Lee doesn't publish the basic data needed for the calculations for the 416 Rigby, nor the 505.

Like the mob guy said, "why take a chance"? You can't figure a load for another more filling powder? Like the fifty series of powder? 5744? That is what I would be looking at from Accurate Powders. In my .500 Nitro Express, it's what works for me. ACCURACTE POWDERS

Please, no offense. I am not the be all answer (perhaps your friend is?), just relaying what I've had success with.
I routinely use IMR 4198 and H4198, H4895, RL-15 and Varget with dacron in my 416 Rigby and a variety of belted magnums. Speeds go from 1,800 fps to 2,600 depending on cartridge and suitability with cast.
I generally weigh the Dacron, just like powder, on an electronic scale.
Phil Shoemaker developed a reduced load for his 505 Gibbs with a cast bullet and 5744 (no filler). I'd look him up. (458 Win.) here. Good guy.

I would not use Dacron with 5744. My favorite cast load for my CZ 505 Gibbs is 60 Grains of 5744, 600 grain RNGC cast bullet sized .506, Fed 215 primer, Jameson case. Accurate no leading. I have not chronographed the load yet.

Thanks doclee, and thanks for load data (without filler) using 5744 from you and others. I plan to go that route for reduced loads.
Thanks again,
Chuck

You might also try Trailboss. It loads much like 5744. Terry Weiland has an article out on both in the Hodgen book this year.

Cmfic1, I would send a request for 5744 load data advice to Johan Loubser who is the ballistician at Ramshot/Accurate Powders. johan ramshot.com He was very helpful and prompt with my request. Good luck.
