Geedubya, now that's not fair! That reminds me of Jack O'Connor's comment on her elephant she had just dropped with an 'o6, "My God Eleanor, you brained him!".....

Thats a real nice Buck you got there hearty congrats.

Many thanks, Huntsman! I'm sure grateful to have taken him.

My pards are locked and loaded, for sure. My youngest had one of those battery powered shotguns that make the firing sounds when we were dove hunting, but when we spotted the axis and starter our stalk, he swapped it for his pistol. Good thing - the shotgun would have probably blown our stalk!

You are more right than you know about those axis being in danger from the boys - my oldest, who is 5 in the pic and just turned 6, has killed deer since he was 4, and killed his first buck this year. He's a natural - quick and accurate and confident beyond his abilities! If he'd been tall enough to make the offhand shot over the brush, he probably could have pulled it off...Grin...

Sorry, ingwe...getting toward supper time....grin.

Thanks for kind words on the Axis - hope you get a crack at one. I really like them - pretty fascinating deer, IMHO. Don't want them to crowd out the whitetails, but wouldn't mind about a 50-50 mix or so.

I've wanted to run the TSX's in my 22-250, just haven't gotten to it, yet. I would think those 53's in a screamin' 22-250 would be bad medicine shooting mighty flat.

My 243's both shoot 55-58's like lasers - wish there was an X in that weight range for the 6mm...but I'm not complaining about the 85's too much...

You done much else with the X's out of the 22-250?

Been shooting the 53gr.TSXs in the 22-250 for as long as they've been out ( 4 Years?)Besides the warthog and a couple jackals on the last African trip, I used that bullet/load combo on 9 deer, mule deer and whitetails, literally from the littlest " eating" doe Ive ever shot, to the biggest Mule Deer buck. Obviously very happy with them. They killed the deer sized game as quickly and surely as any boolit out of any caliber rifle Ive ever used... I am a fan!

DJ, I load the 53 TSX's in my 22-250 on top of 38 grains of Varget at about 3700 FPS in 22" barrel. It's pure death on whitetails. I've never recovered one, even on shoulder shots. Best I've been able to do is find the odd petal in the offside shoulder. Barnes has now come out with a 55 grain TSX in .224. I'm going to give those a shot after I shoot all of my 53's. My rifle (Savage 16 with 1:12 barrel) won't stablize the 62's, but I've got hope for the 55's. It shoots the 53's like a lazer beam.

I run the 62g TSX in my 1:9" SAAMI .223rem, and they work very well ... I should just use the 53 though, if only for the velocity gains.

I can only speculate, but were I running a 22-250, I'm pretty sure I'd be running the 62's, and perhaps the 70's ... but I can imagine that the 53's at Warp-9 do make for some bad medicine ...

The problem with the 22-250's is that most production rifles have 1:14 barrels with a few (savage is one, browning might also) producing rifles with 1:12 barrels. The only way to get a 22-250 with a faster twist, that I know of, is to go to a custom rifle. I sure wish that someone would produce a 22-250 with a 1:9 twist, but most are deisgned for shooting 45-55 grain varmint bullets and just won't shoot any Barnes heavier than a 53.

oh, trust me ... if/when I twist up a .22-250, it will be wearing a fast twist barrel ... either 1:8" or 1:9" ...

I am getting pragmatic in my old age...the 53gr.TSX shoots flat, penetrates completely, is accurate , and produces excellent results in a factory twist ( yeah, most are 1 in 14 ) 22-250. I don't think Ill be switching to the new 55 gr. or give in to the siren song of the 62 grainer. Nope, not gonna "fix" it...
I hate that about my old age, as a younger rifle loony, I'd be unscrewing barrels and re-screwing my checking account, checking it out for myself... to see if it really killed deer.
But if it weren't for all of us messing around with all of this- regardless of advice given-we would have missed out on learning alot, and having fun doing it. grin

Good stuff, guys.

I've got a stainless Model 70 Classic in the dark walnut in a 22-250 that needs to be in some pics with dead deer. I'm thinking the little 53 will be just fine...my 243 spins 85 TSX's pretty well if I need to go heavier.

I'm seeing my boys holding antlers with the 22-250 as the next step from their youth Model 7 223.

For those looking for a factory made fast twist .22/250, Savage offers its Model 12 w/ choice of 1x9 twist. Maybe Adams & Bennet aftermarket barrels for Savages too?

My current "deer" rifle is also a Model 7, CDL in .22-250 Shoots the 53 gr TSX out at 3579, so the 20" Bbl. doesn't lose much. The deer have yet to notice... topped off with a little Leupold 1.5-5 its a nice light package for the old guy to pack up the hill. Keep those boys shooting! smile

DJ, there ONCE was a 75x, and I think Barnes made a mistake stopping production...6mm size.

Sounds like bad ju-ju that M7/TSX combo Ingwe.

DJ, I can't criticize that meant getting eatin up in a hurry! Maybe someday I'll get to try some.

It's not a hog, but the 85gr TSX from my 243 AI exited @ 385 yards. I would have no reservations using this bullet again.
