Hello Guys,

I have a problem with a family of beaver that have taken up residence on my property. They have dammed up a small ditch leading into the big creek and another dam in the creek. They are starting to chew on my timber. What is the best medicine for getting rid of the vermin. Thanks for your help.

Bob

Simple solution. Just bring in a Baptist preacher and have him Baptize them. Then they will only show up twice a year, Easter and Christmas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

They blonds, brunettes or red heads ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Let me know, I could be talked into coming out and "taking care of the problem"

TIA,

Tony. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

When we had them eating up our trees, the game warden came out and didn't say a word. He handed my grandpa a box of 30-30 shells and then got his 30-30 out too. They got the lawn chairs out and just waited. Even a close miss stunned them bad enough for a followup shot. They shot 5 that day. He told us not to bother calling him after that!

Pick up 3-4 330 Conibear traps and set them in their slides where they enter/leave the water, their runs (the narrow channels that they swim through), and in holes that you have made in their dam. Consistently trapping them will entirely rid your property of them, shooting a few from lawn chairs will just reduce your problem. Besides why waste a nice hide by shooting them with a 30-30??? Course I suppose they are no longer prime in Mississippi.

I read (I think on the old shooters.com) that the smell of ICEE HOT would draw them in. miles

Thanks for the replys. Would a shotgun with buckshot be better? What about ricochets on the water or rocks on the creekbed? How hard are they to kill? Thanks, Bob.

22 magnum, cci 50 g Golddot. Beavers are usually most active early morning or late afternoon. Use a tree stand and shoot down at a steep angle to minimize ricochet risk. At least it worked on Georgia pond beavers.

I use Barnes X solid Copper, Trying to keep the lead out of the water. Want to keep the Ducks and Geese clean but do away with those vermin. Closest house in the area is 2 miles away this lake is big, too.

Doesn't anyone believe in pyrotechnics anymore?

[color:"blue"]Tannerite is a [color:"blue"]binary explosive compound. It is not explosive until the two parts are mixed. Check applicable state and local laws before ordering.

Well I would have a 375 H&H made up Beavers are extremly tough- have you seen their teeth? They could take you out in a second better make sure you are loaded with solids - infact I would get someone to cover you with a 458 lott, could get messy!

Seriiously I would just trap them - less time on your part I would think over the long haul- but if that timee were spent with the approperate beverage then you could just pick them off with a varmint rifle say 223?

I've heard that some of the local landowners have used dynamite with good results.

I've shot beavers with everything from .22's to .58 Hawkens loaded down to about 60 grains. A reduced load from the Speer book in a '06 and 100 grain bullet is fun.
My latest is a K Hornet in a Stevens Marksmen.
Use head shots only or you wiil lose them, shoot for the ear.
As long pole with a hook on the end comes in handy for retrieving, unless you have a good Labrador. Just make sure the beavers's dead before you give the dog th " Hi ON!"

Some of the ones that I have eaten, you'd need to drink a whole BOTTLE of wine to kill the wild taste. Others, mmmm......

Yup, Marinade the gums with enough wine and taste becomes a non-issue...
