for the gun, 2x the combat potential, 30-30 ballistics, and 1/4 the ammo cost of 30-30. Legal anyplace the lever action is, too. Luminous sights can be had for it, as well.

Is that your only enjoyment to go from post to post and try and stir the pot. I just got done reading your little digs in the handgun forum too. Why do you getsyour kicks from going post to post and trying to adgitate people. Get a life. Take your cheap commi rifle out of Leveractions, we dont care! NEXT

Don't think Simonov ever chambered the SKS for .356 Win., .444 Marlin or .405 Win, either... Don't think I want to carry a marginal mankiller round in the thick green with the brown furries where I prowl, for that matter... Think I'll keep my leverguns. The "Cindy Crawford" factor is a plus, too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

As much as I enjoy burning up 7.62 X 39 ammo it "ain't no 30-30." The 30-30, in spite of its more contemporary reputation, is very much a hunting round and much more than the little Soviet round ever will be. I've seen what both do on similar game animals. I'll take a 30-30 any day. No ordinary 30-30 is so expensive that the price difference matters a whit.

Let me see if I can give a better perspective on this subject. I was at a gunshop a few years back. I asked to look at this sweet little bolt action rifle. It had a Mini-Mauser action in 7.62 X 39 caliber. It was beautiful. The little guy behind the counter told me that the rifle he carried was better, cheaper and had a higher magazine capacity. He pulled up from behind the counter to show me. It was an AK-47(Civilian version). I told him it was ugly as sin. But he continued on and on about how his AK was better. He said they both provide the same function but he still prefers the ugly AK over the pretty bolt action.

So I asked him. If you had the chance to be "WITH" a woman which would you choose? Would you choose a beautiful woman or an ugly woman? He said he would choose a beautiful woman. I asked him why didn't he choose the ugly woman since they both provide the same function?

He was mute after that.

I can dig the 7.62x39 round. I'd like to own a CZ carbine in that chambering someday for cheap plinking and maybe some deer hunting. The round is nearly the same as the 30/30 on paper too... Problem is that the cheap Russian made and mil-surp ammo stinks and I can't find any "good" fodder for it locally. I can always find decent 30/30 ammo most anywhere.

All that being said, I will most likely never own an SKS no matter what it's chambered in, how cheap it may be, or how high the magazine capacity might be. Just ain't my thing...

That would be that "Cindy Crawford" factor...

7.62x39 with a decent 125 gr bullet at 2400 fps will probably kill a deer ok, at close range. A .30-30 with good factory 150 gr bullet at 2400 fps is just quite a lot better. To suggest otherwise is, well, silly. But then I suspect the original poster may not have enough experience to actually understand just how silly what he was saying is...

You are an idiot ... aren't you? Please tell me this a result of your mother shooting heroin while you were in the womb? Instead of your own gross negligence.

Look into this before you make another stupid post!!

Avagadro, this Agree fellow is an idiot. If he could see that he is posting in the Lever Actions General catagory he would see how irrevelant his information is. Of course there are many guns that out perform the 30-30, so what? He needs to write about them someplace else. While he's moving someplace else he might as well pick a caliber and gun that really does outshine the 30-30 instead of that piece of junk. I doubt if his SKS will be around 100 years from now but I'm sure my 30-30 will be.

I'm guessing ...

Young, ignorant, spends a lot of time trying to look cool, can't remember last time he saw dad (if ever - or which one), looking for attention, the speakers in the car are worth more than the car itself... or so he wishes.

The kind that cranks his radio and leaves all the trash that you find at your favorite fishing hole...

If he ever went hunting, he's the one that shot the farmers dog, shot the signs, or damaged some other property or trashed the place so that you can't go hunting there anymore...

He's the reason Landlords have damage deposits...

Need I go on?

that puny little 7.62 will not hopld a candle to a good 45-70, when facing a huge griz. I dont care how many shots you have.

Very well said. Well, except for the dad part. I believe his father is his brother/uncle/grandfather/great-grandfather strange family line scenario. You know one of those dead one limb tree family lines.

There was a guy over at the now defunct Gunspot Forums that believed the AR15 was better than a lever action. Might be the same guy or maybe related.

This guy sounds like a troll that got the boot from the old Marlin Talk. In his last post, he described how he was going to blow his 45-70 up by using increasing charges of Unique. Fired from the shoulder, no less.

I try to be open-minded about a little goofing around like a certain guy on Marlinowners H&R/NEF talk who hunts 'squills' with a 30-06, but the blowup post was a bit much. I'm hoping this isn't the same guy, but is just a wannabe who doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground. SW
