Well, we're about three weeks away from our hunt in Africa with JJHack. Exitement is building! Makin' our lists and checking 'em twice, practicing offhand shooting and packing/re-packing gear several times. Will bring several cameras and take plenty pics.

Congrats on being able to go on safari! I know you're excited. (A safari in Africa is one of my dream trips.) Look forward to hearing a report from your trip.

BTW - When I saw you were also in Louisiana, I checked out your profile, and it says you're a refinery drudge. I've worked with refineries on environmental projects and been in refineries on a number of occasions, but I've never heard the term drudge -- what does that mean?

I'm sure JJ told you this but bring about three times as many camera bateries as you think you need. If they're rechargeable be sure to bring both wall socket and cigarette lighter rechargers(so you can recharge your spares in the hunting car)--and get adapters in the airport in RSA because they have weird three pronged plugs that look like a US 220v.
Digital and video cameras eat batteries like leopards eat baboons. Have a great time and take beaucoup pictures---they'll tide you over while you wait for your taxidermy.

Another thing I brought when I hunted with JJ is Cutter's insect repellant in the spray can. Take 2 cans!
I sprayed my whole body every morning before I got dressed and never had a bug problem the whole trip. In fact, I did such a great job, my room mate (10point) was protected from the over spray! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

You are going to have a great time. We'll be expecting lots of pictures when you get back!- Bob

Thanks guys, I think we got the camera/battery angle covered. Good tip on the bug juice, we don't expect a lot of 'em but good to be prepared. We'll be after normal plains game menu, impala, warthog, kudu, wildebeast and zebra if possible. We'll take plenty of pics for ya'll.

I would bring a few LED flashlights. The Browning ones are pretty nice. Get the one with the longest battery life.

I also would get one of the beefy surefire lights. More light per ounce that I thought possible. This one is pretty good and rechargable:

10X Dominator

This one also rocks:

M6 Millennium

I would want the M6 mounted on my 416 rem if I was after dangerouse game in Africa.
