Saw this flick over the weekend. Good movie for those who really like "good movies", but it's sure as heck not what you'd call a happy ending family movie. Kind of uplifting in a way, at least for the sheer heart displayed by the main character despite the screwup he's made of his life. It definitely has some fairly raw slices of life on view.
Kind of hard to tell what is special effects and what is real, but if half the stuff Mickey Rourke does is real then my hat is off to one tough 56 year old sumbitch. I'm exactly 8 days younger than he is and still hit the gym regularly, but the things he does in this movie would flat out kill me! Gives one a whole lot of respect for what your average pro wrestler goes though as well. FWIW, I don't think Marisa Thomei was using a body double either, and she's pretty well nekkid through about half the movie.
Anyway, don't go expecting sweet smelling roses and smiley faces, but it's a great character study of a man who's been on top and is now facing the end.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I'll probably buy it when it comes on DVD and hits the bargain bin. (No offense to the movie but that's about all I do anymore-too expensive to go see one for me and they go to the bargain bin so quickly...). I kinda like Mickey Rourke and also feel sorry for him. You got to wonder how much of the story is auto-biographical to an extent.

In my opinion, Mickey Rourke should have been awarded the "Best Actor" Oscar for his performance.

I think it's a good movie.I also think Mickey Rourke should have been awarded the "Best Actor" Oscar . I have watched Two and a half men 1-5 seasons,it's also a good series.
