It's 6x47, I've got one on a Rem 600 action. Sweet little round, Ken Waters did a Pet Loads article on it and Venturino wrote it up in Handloader back in the mid-1980s, other than that there's not much in print that I've seen. Sierra and Hornady had data for it in their reloading manuals in the 80s as well. My gun, according to its former owner--I haven't shot it yet--likes W748 and H335 under 70gr bullets.

DaveJames: Yes indeed the 6x47 is the 222 Remington Magnum necked up to 6mm. Its one of the most accurate cartridges of all time! I have a Remington 40XB-BR KS in this caliber and I have shot many excellent groups with it. I use it mostly though, for long range Prairie Dogs and Rock Chucks and it has a Leupold 36 power scope on it! I enjoy this Rifle as it has very little recoil is slow to heat a barrel and like I mentioned is capable of pinpoint accuracy! I use 70 grain and 68 grain bullets in mine. I have some accuracy loads if you are interested? What action/Rifle is your 6x47 on? Best of luck with it and I hope you like what the 6x47 caliber can do. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Have you ever used the 6x47 to hunt deer? I always wondered about that one... Ingwe

I had a 6x47 benchrest rifle back in the early 1970's, prior to the 6 PPC coming on line. Yes, it's the 222 mag necked up to 6mm. Mine set a national 200 yard record back then in Canada. They are flat accurate. IIRC, I shot 70 grain bullets with 748BR powder. I have some of the parts to have another 6x45, or a 6x47 sporter built now. I'm leaning towards a 6x45 as I never had one of them. The two are so close together case capacity wise, accuracy between the two should be identical, all else being equal.

Have you ever used the 6x47 to hunt deer? I always wondered about that one... Ingwe I have a Kimber in 6X47 that I bought in the 80's. It was the 1st rifle that my sons used to kill deer. Does a fine job, within its limitations. The 85gr SpeerBT and the 85gr Partitions worked well for us, at least on smallish deer at reasonable ranges.

I have its balistic twin the 6x45 (6mmx223) and have shot a lot of deer, pronghorn, and culled African plainsgame including some Kudu with it..I have had this gun for many years and I love it, it is a 5.5 lb. rifle, a midget safari rifle and shoots any load that I have tried under an inch for 5 shots and several loads considerably under an inch for 10 shots (not a misprint). It has a 0 tolerance chamber and a set of hand BR tap in dies made from fired cases by Tony Barnes...I shot the 75 br. Barnes X for years and it worked like a charm, then it was discontinued so I now use the 75 gr. GS Customs HP and it is even better I believe...I tried the 70 gr. Bal tips and they are too soft and come apart. The 80 gr. Speers came apart sometimes. I found out that 2800 to 2900 fps worked best with any bullet that I have used. Favorite accuracy loads are the 63 gr. Sierra HP and the 70 gr. Balistic tip with a dose of H322...
On deer size game you must keep shots in the heart/lung area and limit shots to about 200 yards max and 100 yards is better. It is a neat Texas Whitetail round shooting from a blind. I have also used it on Mule Deer behind my house.

Will it not penetrate the shoulder? That depends more on the bullet than the cartridge that launches it. With the right bullet, the answer is "yes".

The ole girl is built on a mini sako action some time from around the mid 60's I think, know I was over seas at the time, 23" barrel semi varmint style, with the old steel weaver tubed 2x7
He used it for years on yotes and small deer. But Mom never found any paper work on it.
Thanks for the load suggestions

Ingwe: Negative on Deer Hunting with the 6x47. I have not tried that. I did kill a Badger with it but a Badger is a long ways from being a Deer especially with the type, size and style of bullets I have used in my Rifle. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
