My canoe rifle needs a another scope.I had rebuilt K-4 on it but after flipping the canoe in the river all the new tapered posts were sitting on the bottom. The BSA P-17 30-06 did fine,I took it apart on the picnic table, and dried it out. The spare scope,an old Scopechief, lined up well enough so the hunt went on.At the range the Scopechief didn't line up so good no more. I do need a scope, some of the shots accross the swamps can be long. But since it may get wet again,I don't want to spend too much. The rifle cost me 150,with trigger and mounts adding another 100.And that's Canadian.

Buy a used Leupold M8 4X. Generally bulletproof; guaranteed if it's not. Then it will be.

Or the Simmons Master series. Very tough and decent optics.

You wont go wrong with the 2 1/2-10X Tasco. Mine took a tumble for at et least 100 feet down a slope and still hit where it was supose to. The 2 1/2X give a great field of view.

I would go for a Burris Fullfield II in 2-7x35 myself. You may want to stay away from the real cheap scopes even on a "canoe gun" (I like that term :)) Or find a used Leupold 4 power like muledeer said.

I'd vote for the Burris too-or the Leupold.

I haven't experienced as many brands as some, but I've been well pleased with my Nikon Prostaff. Then again, the way they're discounting the Buckmaster's scopes, it might just pay to step-up to one of those.

This is pretty big for a 4X, but a great price on great optics, in a scope line that's reputedly pretty rugged: http://www.natchezss.com/cart.cfm?p...1&CFID=16761429&CFTOKEN=37192927

Bushnell Banner 1.5 - 4.5 x 32 on clearance for $69.76 ... read the reviews on MidwayUSA. Long eye-relief, magnification for close-up, and far enough.

I have a very lightly used Leupold M-8 4X matte/duplex for sale if you're interested. P.M. me for details if you'd like. David

I'd agree...kind of...I have a hard time equating Good & Cheap in the same sentence in regards to a rifle scope...as well as Canoe Gun & Scope...Leupolds are probably the best bet...especially a used one.

I would go along with those who say get a 4X Leupold, and add,or a 3X,if you can find one. They may not be fancy, but they work....

Nothing that says "Simmons" on the label gives me any confidence at all. I've had tasco's, bushnells, leupolds, Burris's and the only one that ever gave me problems was a "simmons". Never again.

Gotta' throw in with the others on the old M8 4X. Dang near indestructible. If new, the Gameseeker looks like the best value on the entire planet with Doug's current offer. I'm scope-rich right now but am thinking about getting one of these to try just for S&G's.

Best Regards

Likely the best advice here.

Otherwise, the M8 or FX-II 4x.

Thanks for the replies. Oddly enough,I do shoot alot with iron sights,I have restocked P-14. Those battle sights are lot of fun,but I know my limits, about 200 yards.Think of shooting across a small lake. Laying down in the mud, resting on a willow,I can stretch that. I shoot Farky class to practice.

The Swift 4x that I've had for 5-6 years has been dead nuts reliable and was not expensive. And it's pretty good optically too.
