Very nice indeed!

I always thought it would be nice to have a Dall Sheep or a Montain Goat engraved on one of my rifles.

I'm jealous of your artistic talent! Please continue with in-progress pictures I would love to see how it developes. I'm also curious of how long a project like this and the ram might take........DJ

You can't tell from the pics, but the ram is a gold inlay.

The single shot (Hagn) took about 6 weeks. But, there were rings and grip cap and several other parts engraved that aren't pictured.

I don't know on the 94 yet, but it is a smaller job than the Hagn.

Beautiful work! As good as any and better than most that I've seen.

Most amateurs (and some pros) don't realize that animal art is a form of portraiture. I never even attempted it. I can draw a human face, but I don't have the skill required to make it look like any specific person. I can't even draw a Canid, let alone make it look like a wolf.

European engravers are especially poor with animal anatomy, as they generally are with stock design and checkering.

You're indeed a gutsy guy -- not every steel-gouger is comfortable with every Tom, Dick, and Harry looking at ultra-close-ups of his work. I noted in particular the evenness and cleanness of the gold-wire inlay that surrounds your portrait of El Lobo -- very nice! (This reminds me -- I used to get a clue to the quality that I was about to see, when the engraver grinned with confidence and pride or got nervous when I stuck a 10 loupe to my eye and bent close over his work.)

Scrollcutter, very nice work. That is something I am very interested in. Some folks think I'm sort'a handy with wild life art myself. If you check my profile you can find a link to my art work. I think the type of work I do would be fairly conducive to engraving. However I have no clue how one engraves on steel. So where and how did you learn your art?

Many thanks for the kind words, gentlmen.

Big Sky,

I have already been to your website. I didn't know until recently that you were the artist. What medium are you using?

Engraving probably wouldn't be much different than the work you are doing now. Some have trouble drawing and cutting scroll, but I'm sure you could figure it out in pretty short order.

Scrollcutter, most of my work is in graphite (pencil). There are a few watercolors and a couple pen and inks as well on that web gallery. However pencil is what I'm most comfortable with. Please tell me how you got started I really admire your work. Ken is right not many guys get the anatomy correct on wildlife. You work is a cut above most of what I've seen. (Pun intended.)

I applaud you both. VERY nice work. Art, well done, will grab and hold the eye...and your work certainly held mine.
