Below is a picture of my wife's first deer. It was shot in northern WI last November. Though it isn't the buck we both were hoping for, she is every bit as excited. I bought her a .270 Remington mountain rifle for Mother's Day and it looks like all of the practice paid off. One shot behind the front shoulder at about 120 yds. I was pretty proud of her.

Congrats, any deer is a good deer, especially on a cold day.

Way to go Mrs. Ski!

Just curious, what is with the pine boughs? A tradition of some type or just covering up the wound?

Again, nice shooting on the Mrs. part.

It was cold...low 20's and the wind was starting to pick up. The picture was taken at about 1600 and I hurried to get the deer dressed before it got dark.

The "pine bough" is actually a small pine tree standing in front of the deer.

Yes, I'm lucky to have a wife that enjoys hunting & shooting. Makes it much easier to buy another gun, but then she wants another one too. I bought her a CZ 527 .223 for Valentine's Day which she really likes; we'll be going PD hunting in WY in early July. And to show you just how much I love this girl, I broke the bank and ordered a NULA Model 20 chambered in .260 Rem for her. Picking out the stock color was what she liked the best.

Your "pine" actually appear to be balsam fir fellas. It pays to know what your looking at as all "pines" are not created equal where habitat and browse preferences are concerned.

I was looking at hip boots one year for Mother's Day, as we were going to our remote cabin in Interior Alaska in a few weeks. Figured she'd like to help get the flat-bottom boat thru the shallow spots. My 14 year old son didn't think that was such a good idea. The salesman said he gave up that kind of thinking the year he got Tupperware for Christmas.

My wife has taken to shooting & hunting like ducks love water. This is a girl whose lived in the city all of her life and grew up competing in talent and beauty pagents. I guess I got lucky (extremely).

Valentines Day brought a second rifle, a CZ 527 chambered in .223. She's burned up close to 200 rounds this month and we're off to the range again late tomorrow afternoon. Her reply to my statement that we were running low on ammo..."Looks like you better load me some more." Don't you just love it.

We're going prairie dog killing (not really hunting) in WY this Summer. She's more than ready, shooting on average 7/10" 5-shot groups w/her .223.

The best part of all of this is that it makes it much easier for me to buy new guns. And of course, she's happy which is great too!

But of course, she's still a woman and likes to be treated as such. Right after we were married, I planted 8 rose trees and 5 rose bushes around the house. About every week, I cut her new roses and put them on the kitchen table. That and a hug when I get home from work every day is a small price to pay for what I have.

Good points about having a clue about what browse is... AK is much easier that way... can you say "Sprucelarchhemlock?" ... and none of it browsable .

The most important ingredient for a great marriage is to start with a great friendship and keep it going. Husbands and wives should not only TAKE an interest in what makes the other happy, but SHARE, that interest as well. We are all lucky men to have a wife that will hunt and fish with us. I enjoy helping my wife with her interests as well. She loves horses so I share that with her. Thus far she has landed 30 pound king salmon, shot a 740 pound bull moose, and killed a couple deer. Thank you both for sharing the picture of your wife on a day that will live forever.
