Around this campfire, we're being treated to repeated evidence that some trolls are dumber than others. Recent examples of this remind me of a couple of lines at the end of Frost's "A Considerable Speck" and a rueful observation by Twain.
Frost wrote a delightful poem about a speck that he noticed on the sheet that he was writing on. It moved, so Frost knew that it lived, and he supposed that it thought. I'm not getting his closing words exactly right, but this is close --
I have a mind myself and recognize When I find In any guise On any sheet the least display of mind.
Twain, writing about the results of granting an interview to a reporter, said that in reading the printed result, he couldn't find himself in it "with a divining rod."
Oh! And another line from one of Twain's priceless letters also comes to mind -- referring to "that South Carolinian idiot, Belton O'Neil Townsend," who "carries his bowels around in his head and when they operate works the discharge into rhyme and calls it poetry."
I rumble with deep chuckles just imagining how either Frost or Twain would repost (or riposte) re our trolls. Like the old song of the '40s, "I Can Dream, Can't I?"
"Good enough" isn't.
Always take your responsibilities seriously but never yourself.

Ken, sometimes it takes nothing short of a 2X4 right between the eyes to help em see the light. Then again might be a waste of a perfectly good 2X4

I'm still wondering why our troll would post a link that includes his address, email address, and telephone number....
Dangerous game he's playing....

Who ever said you had to be smart to be a troll? Probably just something the azzhole came across on the net and he stole the identity.

I believe it was our great Savior Jesus Christ who first said, "judge not, lest ye be judged." Then, as long as it ain't a personal attack, I try to remember that some of these fellers have earned the right to disagree with the house platform, or even the government. Like all this crap 'bout John Kerry and his anit war years. For me (and I ain't a Kerry fan by any means), that man has earned the right to disagree with the government. Best to find a better issue to berate him over. Now that may make me a troll of the worse sort, but trolls are people too, and some of 'em probly damn good americans who earned a riight to say what they think without being attacked personally.

Muleskinner, You are right. Kerry has a right to his opinion, but I have a right to not want him as president and a right to express what I think about him and his protest's. That is until a specified time period before election. miles

'Skinner, I don't give a hoot what he says. He still won't get my vote, and I am as entitled to my opinion of him as others are entitled to theirs of me. Ain't no thing man, ain't no thing.

All this good guy, bad guy stuff reminds me of my bunkies back in the service. A couple of 'em were outright nutcases. I always thought it was a good thing we had the military so these fellers would have a place to live. The nutiest one was a fellow medic who was on his 3rd enlistment, having re-upped after getting back from serving with the marines in viet nam. That guy had a bunch of ribbons, and some bone-chilling stories he would only tell when he was extremely drunk. He barely scored high enough on tests to stay in his job. Nuts? Yeah. Of questionable value in his job? Yeah. A sociopath of sorts? Probably. A man to be respected for what he has done for this country? You betcha. That ol' boy is in his 60s now, and I hope he landed in a soft spot. I'd look him up if I knew how. Too bad that Tillman guy didn't come home to run for office. We need more self-sacrificing patriots and fewer professional politickers to vote for. Ain't nothin' wrong with voting for somebody based on what he's done in uniform. Good as any other reason wrote up by some suit with an MBA in marketing, I reckin'. Most don't amount to much onct they get elected anyhoo. Exactly when did elected office stop being a higher calling to public service and become a strategic sellout to organized greed?

Muleskinner, I agree that service to one's country can be a plus, but there is more to it than that. Would you vote for that nut case that you were talking about, for president? I certainly would not. I try to look at all of the qualifying qualities and then choose the one that I think will do the best job. His stand on abortion and the first and second amendment disqualifies Mr. Kerry for me even if I could forget about his association with Hanoi Jane Fonda. You are certainly free to choose to vote for him or someone else based on your criteria. miles

An old friend of mine in Yugoslavia categorically dismissed guys who add nothing to a conversation but ego-tripping and incendiary verbosity as "wind-****ers". He would have loved an ignore button option.

Sure do miss the likes of old Barry Goldwater. T LEE, You got that right... Nowadays, standing firm for what you believe, "right" or "wrong" has somehow taken the turn to be flat wrong, excuse me "politically in-correct". Just so much Bull$hit. As far as I am concerned, take political incorrectness & shove it up your A$$! Pat

I'm no psychologist, but I do see something else in trolls' obsession for continuing to take the flak and keep posting BS that any fool can tell will only attract still more flak -- such special forms of fools are obviously unsatisfied by the "ordinary" forms of masochism. De gustibus ...

Hey Ken,
If you ever run out of someone else's quotes, you're not going to know what to say. LOL

This boy must not have been socialized correctly as a pup, left alone in the kennel to fend for himself.
Geeze Larry, you come in like a bull in a china shop, go out of your way to alienate everyone. Trying to stimulate debate is one thing. You go above and beyond what most concider proper. Not quite the way to win friends and influence people.

Yup, that is why I finally came to my senses and quit feeding em Rickster. My bad I even started. Many Mea Culpa's for my lapse sir.

Trolls can live only when they are fed. Their bait is tempting, using our sense of indignation or the worthy need to challenge their blatant posts and inflammatory rhetoric. What concerns me is their agenda(s).
Some of the responses to the trolls have stepped outside the bounds of list decorum as we feel the need to defend our fellow posters and to be identified as one that supports our cyber community. In the process we can make harsh statements or counterstatements to the troll that may be used out of context for the troll's purposes. Only when we respond and divert our attention to him are we playing the disruptive role the troll has wanted in the first place.
T Lee and others have said it time and time again. Don't feed the trolls. Left without our nourishment, they must find another feeding place or else shrivel up and just go away. Don't feed the trolls despite the allure of the bait. Don't recognize the troll even if the subject matter is germaine as it only serves to legitimize the troll for future posts.
Me? I am as responsible for the trolls among us as anyone. I have played their game(s) just as they have wanted. But, no more. I hope others will join me. Simple: don't feed the trolls as tempting as it may be. Don't.
