I have a bunch of Remington 200gr JHPs and I'm planning on loading them for whitetails. I have 2400 on the shelf for powder and was wondering if anyone has used this combo before. I have researched the subject and have seen a wide variation in max charges for this bullet weight and powder. This is out of a Ruger BH, 6.5" bbl. Thanks

HB,
Your best bet is to go with the latest and greatest data, which can be found at the manufacturers website.

I've shot a lot of Rem 200 grains JHP and Speer 200 grains JHP, in my Model 57 S&W, using 2400. My best load with either is 18.0 grains of 2400. I use CCI Mag. primers. Works great. Accurate (6" barrel).
That load is a "bomb" coming from my Marlin 1894S, .41 Magnum!
I did, however, have pressure problems with 19.0 grains of 2400. Might be okay in your Ruger. (???) If you want to try it, work up beforehand.

Highbrass How old is the 2400.A few years back it was changed and the new stuf is hotter than the old. So check date of MFGR and date of your loading manual.I prefer H110 , but 2400 will work great

Agree w/ Leanwolf...have loaded for .41 for 23 years. The only addition I'll add is that 2400 doesn't require a magnum primer. I use Winchester Large Pistol primers, in standard "heat".

Saddlesore,
It's a recent lot. I bought it last year.

I use the 200gr Remington JHP over 18gr 2400, RP, WLP, Ruger 4 5/8" and it is an awesome load for accuracy and effectiveness on javelina, mule deer and coyotes.
The Ruger came my way second hand, a trade for an old press. It is the most accurate revolver I own which is maddening as it outdoes my Freedom Arms 83 in 454 and a FA 97 in 45 Colt. Oh well, it doesn't look as good.

Thanks for the info Handloader. My Ruger BH has the 6 1/2" bbl and I figure on 1300+ fps with 200gr JHPs/2400. Thanks again.

Hmm. interesting combo. I use Hornady 210 gr. JHP's with 14.0 grains of Hercules Blue Dot and a CCI magnum primer, and I get somewhere around 1300 fps.

2400 is my favorite, 3x M57 S&Ws, I shoot 210 gr bullets. 18 gr is good charge, and will be fine w/ 200 gr bullets; no need for magnum primers w/ 2400. I use std Winchester large pistol primers. Have been using/loading for .41 for well over 20 years; 2400 is my favorite.
Flame out barrel is fact of life w/ ths powder, and that's OK by me. Very accurate in all my guns.

Have taken 4 deer with the 200 Gr. Rem. slug over 14 gr. of Blue Dot. Two with a 6 1/2" BH and two with a 6" Smith 657. Excellent results; three dead in tracks and one was dumped going full out at 85 yd. and required a follow up shot. (I initially hit it a little to far back, but, it was still enough bullet to make it tumble.) Yea for the .41 Mag.!!!

Now you've gone and done it.....I was hoping to save my nickels for a smooth FA in 41 or 44 sp, now I will just have to talk my brother out of the OM Blackhawk 4 5/8 I sold him long ago I use 210s as a std weight, RP JSPs and XTP HP. H110 unless loading light loads and cast bullets, then Universal Clays, cleaner than Unique and meters smoooooth.
