I have just received a model 1892 20" octagon barrel. No saddle ring in 38-40 Can not find any information anywhere. Fjestad Blue book has Carbine and other models but not this one. Any idea what this is and possible value. Somewhere about 90%. Serial shows made in late 1892 (20k range)

Value depends on authentication. It's not a carbine with an octagon barrel so there would not be a saddle ring. Rifles came with a longer barrel so either your barrel has been cut or you have a special order short rifle.
Get a letter from the Cody Firearms museum. It it shows the short barrel being shipped from the factory it's going to be worth a LOT more.

Thanks Stetson, The barrel does not show signs of being cut down. First thing I checked. Looks factory with all the factory stamps and dovetailed brass front sight. No tang flip up sight but has buckhorn. Also has the cresent but plate but no saddle ring. Mid lengh mag tube also. I have been told that there were a lot of special orders and this might be one. I talked to Cody today. Did not know about them and they say they have the original ledgers. Thanks for that tip. Letter will tell the story......
