Pelosi Made Repeated Requests for Military Aircraft, Documents Show
Representatives for Judicial Watch, which obtained e-mails and other documents showing the requests, say House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has treated the Air Force as her "personal airline."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly requested military aircraft to shuttle her and her colleagues and family around the country, according to a new report from a conservative watchdog group.

Representatives for Judicial Watch, which obtained e-mails and other documents from a Freedom of Information request, said the correspondence shows Pelosi has abused the system in place to accommodate congressional leaders and treated the Air Force as her "personal airline."

The e-mails showed repeated attempts by Pelosi aides to request aircraft, sometimes aggressively, and by Department of Defense officials to accommodate them.

"I think that's above and beyond what other members of Congress are doing and what is expected of our elected officials," said Jenny Small, a researcher with the group.

The group reported that Pelosi was notorious for making special demands for high-end aircraft, lodging last-minute cancellations, and racking up additional expenses for the military.

In one e-mail, aide Kay King complained to the military that they had not made available any aircraft the House speaker wanted for Memorial Day recess.

"It is my understanding there are NO G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable ... The Speaker will want to know where the planes are," King wrote.

In another, when told a certain type of aircraft would not be available, King wrote: "This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset Speaker."
Pelosi's office has not yet responded to requests for comment.

House Speaker Issued Unprecedented Demands for Military Aircraft and Wasted Taxpayer Resources with Last Minute Cancellations

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has obtained documents from the Department of Defense (DOD) detailing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's multiple requests for military air travel. The documents, obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), include internal DOD email correspondence detailing attempts by DOD staff to accommodate Pelosi's numerous requests for military escorts and military aircraft as well as the speaker's last minute cancellations and changes. The following are a few highlights from the documents, which are linked in full below:

* In response to a series of requests for military aircraft, one Defense Department official wrote, "Any chance of politely querying [Pelosi's team] if they really intend to do all of these or are they just picking every weekend?...[T]here's no need to block every weekend 'just in case'..." The email also notes that Pelosi's office had, "a history of canceling many of their past requests."
* One DOD official complained about the "hidden costs" associated with the speaker's last minute changes and cancellations. "We have...folks prepping the jets and crews driving in (not a short drive for some), cooking meals and preflighting the jets etc."
* The documents include a discussion of House Ethics rules and Defense Department policies as they apply to the speaker's requests for staff, spouses and extended family to accompany her on military aircraft. In May 2008, for example, Pelosi requested that her husband join her on a Congressional Delegation (CODEL) into Iraq. The DOD explained to Pelosi that the agency has a written policy prohibiting spouses from joining CODEL's into combat zones.
* Documents obtained from the U.S. Army include correspondence from Speaker Pelosi's office requesting an Army escort and three military planes to transport Pelosi and other members of Congress to Cleveland, Ohio, for the funeral services of the late Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. Pelosi noted in her letter of August 22, 2008, that such a request, labeled "Operation Tribute" was an "exception to standard policy."
* The documents also detail correspondence from intermediaries for Speaker Pelosi issuing demands for certain aircraft and expressing outrage when requested military planes were not available. "It is my understanding there are no G5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable...The speaker will want to know where the planes are..." wrote Kay King, Director of the House Office of Interparliamentary Affairs. In a separate email, when told a certain type of aircraft would not be available, King writes, "This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset [s]peaker."
* During another email exchange DOD staff advised Kay King that one Pelosi military aircraft request could not be met because of "crew rest requirements" and offered to help secure commercial travel. Kay King responded: "We appreciate the efforts to help the codel [sic] fly commercially but you know the problem that creates with spouses. If we can find another way to assist with military assets, we would like to do that."

Speaker Pelosi came under fire in 2007 for requesting a 42-seat Air Force carrier to ferry the Speaker and her staff back and forth between San Francisco, CA and Washington, DC. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert was allowed access to a 12-seat commuter jet for security reasons after the events of 9/11.

"Taken together, these documents show that Speaker Pelosi treats the Air Force like her personal airline," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "Not only does Speaker Pelosi issue unreasonable requests for military travel, but her office seems unconcerned about wasting taxpayer money with last minute cancellations and other demands."

The Air Force should take the Nanny Goat and the rest of her cronies anywhere they want to go. They can place some nice comfy seats for them right atop the bomb doors....until they reach cruising altitude.

IIRC there was a concept of a passenger capsule developed that would fit in the bomb bay of a B-52. Load piglose and her entourage, open the bay doors over the gulf.

You know Pelosi. She figures her personal benefit is the only reason to justify the existence of the military.

Much ado about nothing

All Things Considered, February 8, 2007 The White House is defending House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against Republican criticism that her desire to travel in a long-distance Air Force plane is an extravagance. Republicans have taken issue with the size of the plane in which Pelosi would need to fly to reach her hometown of San Francisco without refueling.

POLITICS
Nancy Pelosi's Travel Scrutinized

Rep. Nancy Pelosi's predecessor as House speaker, Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL), began flying military planes for official travel in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. The Air Force has a stable of planes that are used for travel by the speaker, Cabinet members, top generals and for congressional trips to Iraq and other war zones.

Those planes include:

The C-21, the military version of the eight-seater Lear Jet. Its maximum range is 2,306 miles. Each plane cost $3.1 million.

The C-20B, the military version of the 12-seater Gulfstream III. Its maximum range is 4,250 miles. There are five C-20Bs based at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. Each plane cost $29.4 million.

The C-37A, the military version of the 12-seater Gulfstream V. It's able to fly at high altitudes and therefore fly to other continents, with a 6,300-mile range. There are seven C-37As based in the United States, with four at Andrews Air Force Base. Each plane cost $36 million.

The C-40C, the military version of the Boeing 737, is used for Cabinet members and Congress. It has two galleys and a bed. There are two C-40Cs based in Washington D.C., and two at Andrews Air Force Base. Its range is 4,500 to 5,000 miles. It can hold 42 to 111 passengers, based on configuration. Each cost $70 million.

Pelosi has flown back to California once since becoming speaker. She took a commercial flight there, and returned on one of the 12-seaters.

Hastert used all of these planes except the C-40. Since he lived in Illinois, even the smallest plane could take him there without refueling. The smallest plane would not be able to reach California from Washington, and headwinds or other poor weather conditions could require the 12-seaters to stop for refueling.

It would not be a big deal except for the obvious "I'm really special" influence they try and pedal. Those aircraft listed, as well as darn near every other passenger capable aircraft in the military, are in a pool of resources that are scheduled out of Scott AFB. The USAF runs it and does a darn good job of getting people where they need to be and none of those resources or their crews sit idle for long. If the politico's get a ride and it cancels someone else then they've screwed their customers.

One of the last trips to the boat I made was as OIC of a det so I had to ride aboard early in a COD. Trip to Norfolk to catch the C-2 was scheduled out of transcom and what shows up on the ramp but the commanding general's King Air (C-12) from the Virginia Guard. Nice ride but used just like everyone else's ride to get the job done.

Pelosi's requirement to go non-stop from coast to coast for security reasons is BS. They can stop at any military airbase along the way and they will have more than adequate security. (Likely too good in my opinion).

I read somewhere that Pelosi's husband's company had a Citation which she rode on back and forth to San Fran and she only has to reimburse for 1st class airfare. So, the poor bitch doesn't have to suck up the military planes, but a catered G5 is better than a roast beef sandwich on a Citation.

Oh, and why does she need to fly non-stop?
