375 RUM, 34" ABS Carbon fiber wrapped barrel, Christiansan Arms Carbon stock (raw look) shooting GS Custom 265HV at 3200fps.

.45-70 Marlin XLR worked over by Mic McPherson shooting Bear Tooth 525 Pile drivers at 1900fps.

Carbon fiber AR-15 with ABS carbon wrapped 1:7 twist 16" ceramic lined barrel (total of 4.3lbs) shooting Either Hornady A-max 75/80gr. or GS custom 35HVs. Barnes Green bullets work well and so do Berger VLDs

Tikka/Sako in:

.223 Rem
.308 Win
.338 Win Mag

Those three can do all I am likely to ever do with a rifle.

THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL.

The Tikka T3 in .308 Winchester is the Glock 19 of the rifle world.

The website is up and running!

Right now I have the following.

Remington 700 Mountain rifle 243 win
Kimber Montana 300 win mag
Ruger #1 375 H&H

I do like that Kimber Talkeetna in 375 H&H though! Then again I would feel confident shooting anything in Alask with the 300 win mag.

What I'm using:
Rem 700 Mountain KS 30.06
Win 70 Classic Featherweight Stainless 300WM

If I were starting over, I'd get a Kimber Montana 300WSM and a 338 in either Ruger or Winchester.

1. 338 Win mag

2. 6.5/06

3. 416 Rem mag

I like the less-is-more approach; I think just one can be more than enough.

IME the platform is more important than the cartridge. Light weight, reliable, easy to shoot, accurate and rust-resistant are my most important criteria. My pick for a factory rifle is eithter a 1st generation 700Ti or Kimber 84M Montana in some middle caliber (e.g. 308, 30-06 or something similar).

For the last three years my 700 Ti 30-06 has worked very well on everything from grouse to grizzly, with sheep, caribou, black bear, moose, deer, coyote and probably some stuff I can't remember, in between. I haven't seen the need for two other rifles.

This Cerakoted NULA 308 is my current choice for the all-around AK rifle. It's about a pound lighter than a stock 700 Ti LA and seems to shoot even better. I've only been hunting with it since November, but it's yet to miss anything I've had the occasion to shoot, from deer at 80 yards to a coyote at 600.

Ok I'll play, but I think I finally completed my big 3 last week with picking up the one in the middle.

22-250(Ruger M77 MKII)
300WSM(Kimber Montana 8400)
338WM(Ruger M77 MKII)

Oh and my honorable mention is my summer/knockaround gun is my Marlin 45/70 GG.

That speaks volumes to your confidence in the Ruger Alaskan.

223, 308, 375 (H&H or Ruger).

Handgun 22LR and 44 mag.

Throw in a 12 gauge and I'm good.
