I am thinking of getting a tang sight for my Uberti 1885 Winchester replica in .45-70. Nothing fancy, just a Marbles or Lyman. My question is simply this. Will I have to drill and tap the tang to install it.. I have googled to no avail and was surprised how hard this info was to find. It's almost like they want to keep it secret.
If it needs to be d&t'd I would have to farm the work out, as the thought of drilling into any gun gives me the fear.
Thanks for any answers.

Check with Buffalo Arms. I'm pretty sure they sell Ubertis as well as several brands of tang sights. They are very knowledgable about vintage single shots and accessories. I'm betting it won't be a problem, and you won't have to d & t www.buffaloarms.comCaution: Don't get one of their catalogs. It'd be hazardous to your bank account! Paul

Can't you just look at the tang of your gun and see if it's D&T for a tang sight? If so, then check their listing and see what hole spacing they sell.

Using a tang sight on a heavy recoil rifle can be risky if it is the Lyman type of hunting sight. A ladder or vernier sight is usually OK.

On my sharps replica the rear hole for the tang sight is slotted. it is the russian or romainian made vernier sight so I can't tell you the name. Contact Joe at the gun work in springfield oregon Joe is very knowlegable and he will get you going in the right direction.
