I can't recall how many funny and/or irritating experiences I've had in Utah because of their drinking laws.
My first run-in was in ~1958 when I was headed home on emergency leave. I got stuck in Salt Lake City for several hours on a Sunday and talk about absolutely nothing to do, that was it. I've been back many times and run into every scheme they've come up with to appear to be anti-booze but nearly always found a way around it.
As usual, though, it was a give a little, take a little deal. They simply don't care that Utah is thought to be more than a little bit weird. Maybe someday they will legalize adulthood.
