Spring is showing with the first flowers surfacing, birds arriving, and right now a blowing snowstorm outside. The wife tooks shots of these Ross's geese, and Beldings ground squirrel just recently. When we talk about squirrel season here in the Pacific Northwest, we're after these ground squirrels in alfalfa fields. Our season runs from early March into the first of June when the alfalfa gets too tall to see them. With the first 90 degree summer weather, they go underground and are not seen again until the following spring. I planted my lawn chair in 2 spots last Sunday afternoon, and bagged about 150 of the critters with a 22 LR. One can load single shot and go through a brick of shells a day in a well infested field. Needless to say, the hawks, bald and golden eagles, ravens, and gulls had fine and easy dining last Monday morning.

Ironbender: Been there in the late summer and fall, but still need to come up for a winter view some time. Talk about view property, Alaska and the NWT really have it. Guess one has to keep his snow machine toned down a bit in that neighborhood to avoid a ticket.

I love the goose picture with the geese in focus and the background out of focus. So much more impressive than if everything had been in focus.
Kudos to your wife! She's a great photographer.

I had to go back and look again. It almost makes it look 3-dimensional.

Spring around here just depends on ones elevation. At 4000 ft the ground is bare and a little green is showing. At 5500+ the ground is completely white, and folks are running the snow machines. Last Saturday I rifled ground squirrels in the basin all afternoon, and was pulling a stuck rig out of the snow with a chained up 350 Ford after suppper. Snowing here now, but not enough to build up an accumulation.

Rainin' now, but this is recent. How goo are your eyes? Can you see the cat in the pasture?

BMT: Looks like it's headed out to walk the fence. As a kid back east, we had a cat that would walk the fence across the road. He usually had a mouse within about 50 yards. Hardly fair for the mice. Yesterday (Wednesday) was the pits around here. Blue skies with pintails and snow geese in the air today.

On Tuesday the flood water rose to within 6' of my house and basically filled up 41/2 acres. Now it's been blizzarding for 2 days. The lake around my house has frozen solid and the drifts are 3' high. Where's spring? What's all the BS about global warming? Must be invented by someone who lives in Florida!
