Well after seeing the post on the Tennessee Mammy who refused to say the pledge, I could tell you guys have a fondness in your hearts for politicians....so try this one on for size.....

GOOD OLE SOCIAL SECURITY !!!
Our Senators/Congressmen do not pay into
Social Security, and, therefore they do not collect from
it. Social Security benefits were not suitable for them.
They felt they should have a special plan.
Many years ago they voted in their benefit plan. In more
recent years, no congress person has felt the need to
change it. After all, it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes, their plan works like this:
When they retire no matter how long they have been in
office, they continue to draw their same pay until they
die, except it may be increased from time to time by the
cost-of-living adjustments.
For example, former Senator Bill Bradley (New Jersey)
and his wife may be expected to draw $7,900,000.00 over
an average life span, with Mrs. Bradley drawing
$275,000.00 during the last year of her life. Their cost
for this excellent plan is "0", nada, zilch.
This little perk they voted in for themselves is free to
them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. Our tax
dollars at work! Social Security, which you and I pay
into every payday for our own retirement, with an equal
amount matched by our employer, we can expect to get an
average of $1,000 per month or less. Or, we would have
to collect our benefits for 68 years and 1 month to
equal the Bradley's benefits.
Imagine for a moment that you could structure a
retirement plan so desirable, a retirement plan that
worked so well, that Railroad Employees, Postal Workers,
and others who were not in the plan would clamor to be
included. This is how good Social Security could be, if
only one small change was made. That change would be to
jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan out from under
the Senators/Congressmen. Put them into the Social
Security plan with the rest of us. Watch how fast they
fix it!!!
If enough people receive this maybe a seed will be
planted, and maybe good changes will evolve.
Don't forget, our girl, Hillary Rodham Clinton, thanks
to the infinite wisdom of New York State voters, she now
comes under this Congressional Retirement Plan.
Don't forget also that each so called retired president
also collects over $200,000 per year. Don't forget, they
lost their job and are still getting paid for it. Do you?
Talking about the Clinton's, it's common knowledge that,
in order for her to establish NYS residency, they
purchased a million + house in up-scale Chappaqua, NY.
Makes sense. Now, they are entitled to Secret Service
protection for life. Still makes sense. Here is where it
becomes interesting. A residency had to be built in
order to house the Secret Service agents. The Clinton's
now charge the Secret Service rent for the use of said
residence and that rent is just about equal to their
mortgage payment, meaning that we, the tax payers, are
paying the Clinton's mortgage and it's all perfectly
legal. You gotta luv it!!

That's very well put!7MM!....but just look at the numbers on the Bradleys!!!!!!!
The best part of that whole thread is the part that states, 'THEY GET PAID EVEN AFTER THEY ARE FIRED, WOULD YOU ARE I?!"...
...I mean think about it, they will actually make more money going to the seanate for one term, then doing something else, 'cause they'll still get paid their senate check!
No wonder the national debt is a "black hole!" 7mm,
What "We the people" do about it is get involved in the process. We stand up and tell these leeches that we aint gonna stand for it no more!! If they wont change the law, we get someone in there who will. Remember gang, politics was supposed to be a part time job. After a person served, he/she was supposed to go back to their job. Because "we the people" bought this load of bushwah that the only way a person can be effective is to allow them to serve for the rest of their lives, well, we get what we have now. People dug in like ticks in D.C. with the deck stacked against new people getting elected. As the saying goes, we get what we pay for. Duh!!
Did you guys just drop in from another universe.
These elected officials DO NOT live by any of our rules.
They use our tax dollars to give away money to buy votes in their districts and they use our money to run their campaigns.
They have absolutely misappropriated ,(make that read "stolen"), every penny that should have been in the Social Security funds and given that money to people who will never pay in to any fund they've taken money from. All this to buy votes.
I don't know about your lives, but, I'll tell you this. There's someone illegally crossing a border right now who will get more money in giveaway, vote buying benefits than my 81 year old Mom plus her Mom and Dad ever got after working and paying IN all their lives. That includes free medical care, food, food stamps, educations, job preference and free money to buy homes and businesses. Just so they'll vote for "the party" they love.
Rick, I'm about to go on a rant.
If you're there, we probably need a "Political Board".
'slayer, you might want to change the title of this post to something more attractive.
I almost skipped it 'cause I DON'T want to puke.
2D

Well I opted out of the system in 1966, having found a qualified municipal plan. Since that was before Medicare I didn't have to pay for part A either. Now that I'm retired I have to get in another 13 quarters to be eligible for the latter. I'll never be eligible for a retirement check. The good, bad or ugly was my choice, too bad y'all didn't have the same one. New muni employees are stuck with all of the Medicare taxes. I was suprised at just how much it was, and think there is no ceiling on it like retirement.
As far as Ali Daschle and the 50 thieves, don't get me started. 'Slayer:
I'm sure you are aware that there is a Bill of Rights attached to our constitution. And that's good because it goes a little way to protecting our freedom. But the biggest threat to our freedom is people using the Bill of Rights to detroy the freedoms that it was intended to protect.
I think that we need a Bill of Responsibilties to balance the Bill of Rights. For example;
1. A citizen has a responsibility to be a productive member of society and to contribute to the general welfare.
2. A citizen must be responsible for his/her actions and must be held accountable for those actions.
3. A citizen has a responsibility to participate in the political process and to question the government.
There must be some more very good responsibilities that we each shoudl be required to fulfill. What are they?
KC

I'm sure the liberal Democrats would love this idea, but I think that if you are taking any kind of publicly underwriten assistance, whether ADC, rent subsidies, or student loans, or whatever that you should not be able to vote until at least one year after you are no longer receiving such aid. Why should someone be able to vote for politicians that give our money away and yet obviously are not paying their share of government costs and have no interest in reducing them or our taxes. Medicare and medicaid should probably be on the list too. I'll just make all the special interests groups mad while I'm at it.

CAT,
I agree but only in part. Social security and medicare have been paid for by the recipiants in advance and IMHO should not be included in the excluded class. Those that live on the public dole and receive other types of assistance have not and should be.
I now recieve both SS and Medicare benefits and it has not changed my mind about overbearing gonernment and I still voted G.W. and any other CONSERVATIVE politicions (if there really is such a thing!)also I would not join AARP due to their anti-gun and other socialists ideas no matter how good the other benefits!
JMHO

T. Lee:
Well, I'm kind of amazed that anyone agreed with even part of it, I guess that is a start. As far as Social Security goes, it theoretically is self funding and if the pols had not continually increased the benefits over the years it probably would be. But I'll give everyone Social Security since they sure have paid into it over the years and it would and should have been enough if it was a privately run plan. I guess I will grudgingly(LOL)let you Medicare recipients vote, although I have serious doubts as to how self funded it really is. But, I'll do it so I can become Czar for a year and change this system. LOL

CAT,
Works for me. All I want them to do is leave it alone. You know "if it ain't broke, fix it till it is" they gotta quit messing with it, just like they gotta quit messing with the Constitution and our rights, dammit!
