The list was so helpful on my "Premier" question. I have going to ask a few more about a Savage Sporter (23A) I am trying to restore. The rifle is pictured below and it turns out it is a "parts" gun with the stock being a different serial number than the receiver. If anyone knows "Kenneth Williams", I have his old stock (name electro-penciled on backside of buttplate). Questions:
1. What should the buttplate look like? This one appears to be painted black. It has the SVG in a circle mark.
2. I have had to make (from an old hacksaw blade and tal35's wonderful pictures) a front clip spring, which works OK. Anyone with an extra I would like to see if I could buy it or trade for Model 1914 parts.
3. The only replacement magazine I have found in stock is at Bob's Gun parts for $35. Any other sources? I have a Savage 1919 and that magazine works but finding an original looks like a long and expensive proposition.
4. I am trying the Weave side mount and rings for a scope. Any issues in sighting in?
Thanks again.

Bob,

I have a 23A, sn 125xxx. It has a plain uncorrugated steel buttplate with the Savage SVG in a circle, centered, more or less, in the middle of the buttplate. I can't help you with either of your magazine issues. Old mags are pricey and dealers know what they have, mostly. Check gunshow parts dealers and the usual internet sources. Members here have been know to have parts too.

The side mount works if your scope has adjustments. Most do so you shouldn't have any problems.

The majority of the Sav 23A rifles that I have checked numbers on have not had stocks with matching serial numbers. Your rifle might be in original form.

The butt plate sounds correct. With the SVG is would be around 1928 to 1933 production.

The 1919 magazine is the same as used in the 23A.
