Dear Experts,
I have heard about the convienience of being able to change out the barrels on Savage made bolt-action rifles. I currently have a 7mm Rem. Mag that I just recently acquired. I'm wondering what caliber options I would have if I wanted to change the barrel on my Savage 110 to another caliber. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am not an expert, but from what I understand you would be able to use any caliber that has the same bolt head as your's. In this case I would think 300 WM, 338 WM and so forth. tom-

Basically you could change to any factory cartridge from 458 Mag down that you could find a barrel for. As it is now (7mm Rem Mag) you can convert to any other regular American magnum chambering although the new short mags might give you some feeding trouble. Another option is that you can easily change the bolt head and change to any of the 30.06 class cartridges on down to the 223 case head sized cartridges but you'll need to buy new magazines.

Fjold,
Thanks for the help. I don't necessarily want to change the calibers for good (i.e. buying and installing a new magazine), but I'm just wondering what calibers I would be able to "easily" switch between. Like, one day I could shoot my 7mag, but the next day I could change it out to shoot XX caliber. You know what I mean? Thanks again for the advise.

Like was said above, you could use any other magnum cartridge without changing the bolt head, i.e. 300 WM, .338 and .375 H&H if you can get it to fit. But normally people want to switch down to a lighter shooting gun for fun. In tah case, you're going to have to switch to a standard bolt head to get down to .243 or .270, or to an even smaller bolt head for .223. Check out all the info at www.savageshooters.com for more barrel switch info.
