Just got a MR Crew Cab and was wondering which size Kifaru gun bearer I need? Do you have the long and run it around the waist belt or the short and run it through the web on the belt? Or Is there a better system? Thanks Duane

The Universal will work. I had a MR NICE last fall and ordered a universal gunbearer for it. Worked like a charm.

I've used both with my Gregory - the long (universal) around the pack belt and the short (designed for the Kifaru packs) in the webbing - both work. Which one you use depends on where you like to position the rifle.

I've stopped using the Gun Bearer after losing 2 on trips to AK. The butt webbing cradle tend to come off in thick vegetation, tough mountains, etc. I think of this as a great idea, but imperfect technology in execution. Another problem is the lack of support on the outer part of the web sling that holds the butt of the rifle. Weight causes outward sag, although I never had a rifle fall out. I never found a way to position the GB to avoid getting bumped on the head with the rifle barrel when the terrain got steep enough.

The release on the shoulder strap works great and is with practice is very fast in bringing the rifle on target. Room for improvement on a great idea.

good product - although it only last 3 sheep hunts and came apart at the seams. I need to order another.

I must not hunt hard enough, nary a problem with the 2 of mine, and one has been on at least half a dozen sheep hunts.


will say if you ever move it or take it off, you'd best press that velcro back together real good.

I've used a couple of them in some pretty bad places for some time. All of them are doing well, but I do have a spare.
I've found that it pays to experiment with the adjustments as you use it. Some adjustment might be a good idea if you change to another rifle.
I don't usually use it when I'm hunting. Too much movement, too much noise, and they ride too high for actual hunting use. For actual hunting, I prefer to sling my rifles upside down on my off side. But when it comes to packing out much of a load, they are the answer. E

Absolutely carry a spare upper. I will guarantee that it will snap in two if you fall and hit the gun butt first. I've broken two, and consider a spare mandatory accessory for this great tool.

I have used a couple both the universal and Kifaru specific for several years with no breakage. Worst experience was a dog jumping over a log I was stepping over- dog hit the butt of the rifle the rifle pivoted back and the barrel smacked me in the forehead. I think a rubber open ended barrel holding device that was a friction fit to the barrel would be better upper but have not devised one yet - current upper does let the barrel move too much in some situations.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's broken one. They do work well though...

Let me ask this, the top strap, does it ride on your fore stock or barrel? If on the fore stock, won't it wear down wood checkering?

I dig my Gunbearer and learned just like Doc that if you wipe out and the rifle gets jolted upwards, the top piece is done. Kifaru sent me 2 replacements so I have an extra. I also carry rolled velcro and thats how I got through the first time I broke one. I absolutely love the design for mountain hunting where your hands are on trekking poles and you have many miles to get to hunting country.

It fits over the fore-end. The rubber liner works well, never noted any wear on the stock. IME the upper keeper works better than the buttstock cradle. This is one of those gizmos that works great -sometimes- But it needs work to be reliable, esp the attachment to the belt.

I picked up one of these at a gun show. I dont know if it will be what you are looking for but it works pretty good.

Pointblank thanks for the link, Looks like a neat product. I use a Crooked Horn system for carrying my binos looks like it might not work out too well for that. Anyone else have any experience with this product. Thanks Duane

if you are using the PALs webbing on the MR pack , Kifaru sells a military version that fits the webbing. It is built tougher in the cradle than the hunting version also.
I have been using this on my crew cab. I also have the standard version for a kifaru daystalker.
