While you are at it, look up success rates on blacktail bucks. I've killed one every year. Hint: statewide success rate on blacktails is well under 20%.

Does the 20% include those azz shot on private property?

Yep, all of 'em <grin>...

How about that 60-plus percent rate on an Alaskan deer tag, last time I looked? And you guys get what, 6 buck tags? So that 60-plus percent success rate includes lots of tags that never even get hunted.

Some tough-ass hunting you are doing up there... laffin'...

"This years survey results are notable in that even though the reported region-wide hunting effort was
the 2nd lowest in 20 years, the average number of days required to harvest a deer was equivalent to the lowest on
record. Consequently, the overall harvest of deer was not substantially lower than the long-term average. Total
deer harvest for the 2003 season is estimated to be 11,180, an increase of about 2,606 (30%) from the previous
season but 1,181 (9%) less than the average for the previous 20 years. Hunter numbers of 7,028 were 2% higher
than last year but 12% lower than the long-term average of 7,994. The hunter success rate was 66%, three percent
higher than the long-term average. The average hunter spent 4.6 days hunting this year; 1.3 days less than the
long-term average of 5.9 days. On average, hunters harvested a deer every 2.9 days afield, a rate equivalent to the
highest on record..."

Following that logic it would be best to get tips on picking up chicks from a guy that only scores once every 10 years, vice a guy in a target rich environment.

What a [bleep] tool you are.

And yet, we agree that TryMe is incorrect in his insistance that there's a significant difference between 7-08 and .308 in the field.

Difference being, I have the balls to say so. You, not so much.

I've never shot a critter with a 308, hell I've never run a 308 much past 300 yards. Have killed with the 7mm08 and run it further.

If one don't reload I recommend the 308, even though I can't like it much.

The voice of experience, as always... Grin...

C'mon, grow a pair. Explain in your inimitable way to ol' Larry what a dumbphuck he's being. You'd do it to anyone ELSE taking a position like his.

Or do the rules not apply to him?

Tonk says:

"What a mess of a thread! Well, I will pick neither the .308 or the 7mm-08 as any of my hunting rigs. I tried the 7mm-08 once with my daughter in a featherweight model 70 Winchester but to much muzzle jump and muzzle blast to suit her needs."

In fairness to the chambering proper,Winchester is the master of botching stock design. Such things do much to add felt recoil.

How far is "far" and how big of a critter is "big"?

battue,

Sadly,I think poor JeffDilldO is offering all he can muster, which admittedly is a long ways from being even a little bit.

Humorous however.

Larry ... what velocity does the 7Shamu give with the 120TSX out of (I'm guessing) the 22" bbl on that rifle?

Just curious, because I'm getting 3,300fps with my 7mm-08AI, and am just curious how it compares. Thanks.

I know Orygun Hunters with but a single 308,who fill their Deer tag(s) every year,as well as their Elk.

You must find much "satisfaction" in having 4 or 5 of them and getting repeatedly skunked.

Impressive,to say the least.

3300 sounds a bitt stiff. Are you not getting any stiff bolt lift or cratered primers with that load????
