Mind telling us how you're getting 2600 pfs with a 208 AMax out of a .308? Just pulling a random number out of your a$$ to make the comparison look good or have you actually gotten that velocity out of one of your rifles?

MontanaMarine is getting 2550 from a 20.5" tube. Run a 22" or longer barrel, and/or moly it up as per Banned Stick, and viola.

FWIW, neither of my 7-08's would TOUCH 2700 fps with a 162-gn bullet (Banned Stick's load). Not even close. So...

TFF.

I'll step out and let ya'll, and the silent majority reading this, digest the information. You guys, keep calling names as you see fit.

Have a good one, one and all!

Have you looked at the difference in elevation and atmosphere?

I see 2700 fps as obtainable.

Those are numbers you are pulling out of your ass with zero personal experience to back it up. But that's what you do. Talk about things you have zero experience with. That's why you are a joke, and will continue to be a joke around here.

Still waiting for those 308/208AMAX pics..

MM's was getting those numbers when his barrel was 22'', using moly, and his loads were 3'' and wouldn't fit in a mag box. Even then, he didn't hit 2600fps.
MM's .308 208 loads

22" barrel
OAL 3.002"

That OAL gives a .002" crush on chambering, the throat is longer than I previously thought.

Keeping it to 2.9'' OAL(which still won't feed through most rifles), his loads were in the 2400 range with moly.

2.90" OAL (kissing lands)

These 208s might not be worth a [bleep] in a 1/12 bbl, but I gotta know.

Two shots each over chrony. velocity at 15' from muzzle:

RL15

44.5gr - 2474, 2474

45.0gr - 2481, 2483

QL indicates this velocity corresponds to pressure at 60-61K lbs-psi.

You're grasping at straws with something you've never done, citing numbers that can't safetly be gotten in rounds that will feed through a short action.

Jds44,

Didn't you know that Jeff O has a .308win built on a Long Action!?

I was really hoping that Jeff O would go out and buy some 208 AMAX's to figure out how stupid he really was...

One of my .308's with a 22'' barrel is only in the 2600fps range with a 165 Interlock and a book max charge. If you tried to run a 208 to 2600 in that rifle, you'd blow it from hell to breakfast. Course my Field & Stream subscription expired, so what do I know?

Ah, Macbeth. I haven't read that since high school. I'm not a big Shakespeare fan; but, Macbeth is worth the read.

While the Macbeth reference has merit, I was thinking more along the lines of Don Quixote.

My last go with the 162 Amax, that no one shoots, was an average of 2660 fps via 40gr R15/Fed210 with zero pressure signs. I have no doubt I can safely clip 2700.

I can only get about 2650-2700 out of my 308(22" tube) with a 165gr partition and RL15(IIRC, 45.0 grains)
I suppose I could push it a little harder than that, but I still don't think I could get much beyond 2700fps(safely.)

To answer your question - not really. But some of us are stuck in front of a PC all day anyway, so kicking JO's a$$ is a pleasurable distraction from reality. Besides, there's nothing to kill right now but them overgrown chickens.
