Since my handle is being tossed in the ring, I'll add some clarity.

Here's some of my findings with the 308, with 208 AMax, and 210 Berger. These results span three different barrel lengths (same factory VS barrel, but cut twice)

26" bbl:

210 Berger, WW brass, moly, 2.9" oal
48gr W760, 2500 fps
49gr W760, 2550 fps
50gr W760, 2600 fps

22" bbl:

208 AMax, WW brass, moly, 3.0" oal (that poly tip makes it longer than the 210 Berger)
49gr W760, 2530 fps
50gr W750, 2580 fps
44.5gr RL15, 2480 fps
45.0gr RL15, 2520 fps

20.5" bbl:

208 AMax, WW brass, moly, 3.0" oal
49gr W760, 2500 fps
50gr W760, 2550 fps

There are some magazine options for the Rem 700 SA that will accomodate 3.0"+ oal, but my factory box max's out at 2.825", and I typically stay around 2.81" max if I intend to run them from the magazine.

These charges of W760 won't compress enough to get the oal into the magazine without deforming the bullet. The RL15 loads will work at mag length. That's in WW brass that is fireformed and only neck-sized.

I refuse to take sides in the midst of all of this absurdity; however, I feel I should give credit where credit is due. battue's "jousting with windmills" reference was a hoot and made me laugh out loud.

Ah, Macbeth. I haven't read that since high school. I'm not a big Shakespeare fan; but, Macbeth is worth the read.

While the Macbeth reference has merit, I was thinking more along the lines of Don Quixote.

I was thinking of the Hatfields and Mccoys.

FWIW, neither of my 7-08's would TOUCH 2700 fps with a 162-gn bullet (Banned Stick's load). Not even close. So...

My last go with the 162 Amax, that no one shoots, was an average of 2660 fps via 40gr R15/Fed210 with zero pressure signs. I have no doubt I can safely clip 2700.

As a test, I think you need to send that rifle and those loads up to me. I am betting at 7200 feet they are hitting 2700 as is.... or I could get off my lazy azz and find out for myself. grin

83 pages of - what is better, white bread or wheat bread? How about another 83 on which is better, the partition or the TSX? Or maybe - Can deer see blue tape? Or - Is carrying hot dangerous? Or - Is my Leupold out of focus? Or - ... I think I'll go shave my azz, at least when I'm done I'll be able to say I accomplished something.

The only time I've been past 7200 ft was in an airplane.

TryMe, aka Big Stick aka Banned Stick aka Larry,

Seeing as how I'm a nice guy, full of love for my fellow humanity, a burning desire to help, and a willingness to share, I've done a little cost-analysis of the situation for you.

Cost of a 7mm-08 or .308 rifle? The same.

Cost of 7mm-08 vs. .308 ammo? Pretty much the same.

Cost of having your ass publically handed to you by the guy you call the biggest dumbphuck on the internet, under your own terms of debate?

Priceless.

Would be if it actually happened. Those of us with our feet in reality see it differently than you have written...

You just don't get it do you? I guess that you never will. There's only one ass that's been publically handed out, and that's the one that you are sitting on right now.

Being shouted down ain't losing, and it's ALWAYS a good thing to punch a bully in the nose.

But I don't expect you to understand that.

Typing to someone to STFU isn't shouting down, and its ALWAYS good to tell a clown puncher to STFU.

I don't expect clown punchers to understand that.

So we agree Larry is a clown. That's a start.

So I beat him on his own terms in a fair debate, weathered the storm of all his little piss-ant minions calling names, and you agree he's a clown.

This ain't a bad day, not at all. Now if you'd just try some REAL beer... grin...

You might want to google "clown puncher"...
