Who loads long pointy bullets to SAAMI OAL specs, anyway?! Not me.

And while I'm no 7-08 expert, neither of the two I owned and loaded extensively for would touch 2700 with a 162, any more than they'd fly to the moon. And if a feller DID try to load that bullet to those kinds of speeds, it most likely won't be at 2.8", either. Ya know?

Aren't you all cold-chamber hunters anyway? Do you think there's no time, while lining up your mythical 1000-yard shot with your 7-08... To slip a bullet of whatever OAL into the chamber?

But, anyway, there's your 2600 fps, for all practical purposes. You want me to clobber you with the numbers at 2575 or whatever, it'd be my pleasure. Say the word.

Bobby, here's some 100 grain info.

Looking at notes.

100gr. Horn flatbases didn't shoot well, 3-4.5"@200(minimal effort though/no speeds).

100gr. Noz BT shot great at 200 yards but the same load got squirrely at 400(6"-8" depending on my jerking around). Worked up to 47gr of H4350 and hit a little over 3100fps.


115 gr BT's seem to shoot the best in the loads I've tried.
I've only shot them three different times (300-400 yards). The first times it was breezy but today it was calm and they shot great. 2900fps and dead on with the dots.

I'll rate that one "6th grade".

What I love on this thread is the stunned silence from the minions of Big Schtick whenever actual numbers come up, and they get reminded again (d'oh!) that name-calling and dogpiling won't change reality... Laffin'... Your guy made a tactical error, bucko's, which he could have corrected 40-odd pages ago scot-free if he had a humble bone in his body. Failing that, I guess 40-odd pages of beating the dufus at his own game has been HIGHLY amusing to me, so I'm not complaining!

So the 7-08 is second place because it has less energy, frontal area, and bullet weight at extreme range?

That's harsh, bro. Don't forget, it blows .3" less at 600 yards in a 10 mph crosswind. Doesn't that count for ANYTHING around here?!

There isn't a single 308Win on the Planet,that at like pressures and barrel length,will scoot a 46gr heavier payload than a 7-08,at the 7-08's speed. Impossible,end of story. I reckon it a reoccuring theme within all Published load data,that 308Win launched 165's do NOT travel at 7-08 120gr speeds. Nor do 308Win 180's zip at 7-08 140gr velocities. That'd be a constant up and down the scale. Funny how the obvious,ain't obvious enough,for those truly afflicted with untold shortcomings.

As an aside,did anyone catch her Tag Stew recipe? As often as she eats it,I'm thinkin' it must really be sumptin'.
