Does anybody make one?

if not, why?

is there a similar caqrtridge available in a levergun?

seems like it would be a perfect combo,a small fast levergun throwing a bullet the size of a doorknob.

I had hopes that a Marlin 1894 could be turned into a big S&W half inch.
Nothing promising I've read on that front.
The .50 Alaskan has been done . Seems that is or was as close as you could get.

Built here , Check and see if they still will do them : http://www.leveractions.com/leveractions.htm

Isn't the operating pressure that a .500 S&W round runs at too much for a lever action platform? I had thought that that was/is the case, and the reason why a .500 hasn't been offered in a lever action.

I wondered the same thing a few years ago: http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/1282532/500_S_W_Levergun#Post1282532

Wild West Guns had a prototype: Model 04 but it never came about. I called about it when it was still on their website and they said it was not in production yet. Their current website has no mention of it. Guess it never happened. I think Ken is right and it might have something to do with pressure being too high. I have a BFR in 500 and still really want a levergun to go along with it. I'm not even a levergun fan but it just seems like such a perfect fit for the 500 S&W. I guess if that was really the case - it would have been done by now though. frown

Look at it from another view, why would they make one? The 1894 action is too short and the strength is not there. That leaves the 336/1895 action. It will work but we already have it in 45-70, 444 Marlin, and 450 Marlin all in a short rifle. Why would we need another caliber that duplicates what we already have? Marlin would sell a few but not enough to pay.

Find a Legacy .454 or .480 and tell yourself its a .500. The '92 action is too short. The Win 94 and Marlin 336 are too weak for the pressures. The Marlin 94 is too short and weak. If you could ever figure how to make the rimmed case feed from a box magazine, you could waste a lot of money rebuilding a Browning BLR (or just be happy with a .450 to start with). See how easy that was...

Available in 22" rifle or 18" carbine. MSRP: $1,889.00.

Here's to hoping for a nice tax return. smile

The 22 inch barrel holds 5 rounds and the carbine with 18 inch barrel holds 7 rounds???????

Interesting?

i own a french custom made .50Alaskan on original 71 Winchester but even loading hot, pressure are lower than 500S&W. That's why Bighornarm was obliged to build an improved 86/92 action. And more than the pressure, must think to the diameter of the barrel to get enough metal around that hi intensity cartridge, a barrel made for a 454 would be to thin, i think.
Here is my big 50, will come with me in september to hunt water buffalo in Australia. Woodleigh 500 or Hauk 450 bullets will see!

I would take extra cash with me and visit Geoff at Woodleigh bullets and mail back as many of his bullets as I could. No finer hunting bullet have I ever used than Woodleigh. The man is a genius when it comes to all phases of metal work. His bullets are tested only on live game.

Not a rumor, I've held both of their prototypes in my hands and their action is truly their own for both.

I wonder how many rounds it will take to tax the rear locking aspect/design of the rifle, causing stretch and excessive head-space? Think I'll wait a few years before considering buying one.

Wild West .500 looks like the action is a Marlin on steroids. It is so much more beef don't think it would ever be a consideration. It really is bigger than any shorter action from Marlin. I was looking at it as a machinist figuring how to dupe it for injection moulding for lost wax and can tell you it is really nice and well thought out. I know the moulds can be done to first article for 7K. 17-4 PH would be my choice for the action and takes it above a PSI of a hundred thousand. Barrel of course 416R and you know that can take it.
