So I just picked up my first muzzleloader and was wondering what else I need to buy to get started. I'm mainly interested in hunting with it as well as doing enough target shooting to get comfortable with it. The gun is a sidehammer model, don't know if that makes any differance.
Anyone know any good reads on the subject (books or websites)?

For books , hands down would be any of the Black powder handbooks written by Sam Fedela . For an online resource I would recommend . The Traditional Muzzleloading Association . Just about anything you would want to know can be found there The Traditional Muzzleloading Association

Before you get anything else get a good set of cleaing supplies specifically for it and learn how to clean it right. You'll probably spend more time cleaning it then any other gun you own. If you don't, it won't last long.
Congrats on the purchase!

Buy a Dixie Gun Works catalog. It's loaded with shooting supplies and plunder, and the back of it is full of information you'll find useful. A good book or manual is great, but shooting with some knowledgable muzzleloaders is even better. If you post where you live, we could hook you up with a local muzzleloader club.

That's exactly what I did... talked to the folks who were shooting 'em... got a great "education" in minimum time !!! Strength & Honor... Ron T.
It's smart to hang around old guys 'cause they know lotsa stuff...
