Mike,

I recently had a 1-A bbl in .243 Win bored to .338 Fed. I tried to get the 'smith to bore it to .358 Win, but he refused. Said there was not enough "meat" to make it .35 cal. frown I took his word for it...

I'm with the 'smith on that one, unfortunately. It would get pretty "skinny around the edges" and the proximity of the holes for the rib attachment to the bore might disrupt the reboring process. I'm not a great friend of rimless ctgs. in single shots, but a .358 is worth having in whatever format. Especially if you're a handloader, it'll do mouse to moose (mice to meece?).

MIke,

I, too, am a fan of rimmed cartridges in a sgl loader. I have a #3 in originally .22 Hornet, that I had bored and rechambered to .356 Win. , Unfortunately, in my stupidity, I specified 1~16" twist. frown At this point, I wish I'd rather speced 1~14". I did find out quite accidentally, that it will fire and eject the rimless .358's as well. Kind of versatile, don't you think?

K1-A .35 Whelen but with a black/gray laminated stock instead of the beautiful walnut one they put on the first batch;

Same in 7.62x39...I have one and it is GREAT shooter;

Same in .350 Remington Magnum;

K1-S or 1-S in .500 S&W;

#1-A in .357, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .460 S&W, .475 Limbaugh;

K1-B or 1-B in .257 Weatherby

Yes, that's right. 26-inch barrel.

You perfectly described the discontinued #1S. They were nice, but too heavy. Maybe that's why they are discontinued.

I LIKE THIS!!! Think of all the calibers that this would be appropriate for:

smile Rimfires- .22LR, .22WMR; .17HMR
grin .32-20 case head & ejector: .218Bee; .25-20; .32-20
laugh .30-30 casehead & ejector: .219 Zipper; .25-35; .25-35Tomcat; 7x30Waters; and .30-30

I would limit the diameter of the barrel to .30 cartridges to keep the rifle's scale appropriate to the smaller cartridges and so there is only one contour and 1 forend to manufacture.

With the price and availablity of powder and lead, I think going smaller in caliber will be a trend. Besides, with the bullet technology today (Ballistic Tips, TSX's,and such) these calibers are much better performers than when Ruger first introduced the #1 and #3.

Hope it happens in the next couple of years.

Don

.22 HORNET

I really would like a #1 in .22 Hornet. Something "light" would be great!

Ruger made some in the 1A model. Probably a distributer special. But I've never seen one when accompanied by money. grin

For me. I would like to see a 6.5-284 in a AB. Another try at the 404 Jeffery in the H, and the 50 alaska in the S or H. 358mt

I have a standard rifle in the Hornet. It's a lot of rifle for that small cartridge,plus I have a Leupold 6.5x20 target scope mounted on it. Nice thing is recoil is so light and scope so powerful and clear you can see bullet holes as instant you pull the trigger.

One of the little 10a light rifles woould be great in the Hornet.

Oh my, a half round, half octagon barrel would really turn me on ! Maybe even a full octagon. A beautiful barrel would sell them to me !
Only have two now A 30-06 for only cast bullets and a custom #3 in 222 Rem for beauty.
