a little Union solidarity is what brought Poland back into the fold and was the start of the downfall of the U.S.S.R. Lech Walensa is in my opinion one of modern history's greatest heroes. if folks here in the US could show that kind of solidarity there is nothing that we could not accomplish!

And before we get on the immigrant wagon (wich this thread is bound to lead to).I would like to add that my grandfather immigrated from Sweden to Ellis Island learned how to speak English and planted trees for the goverment for years till he got a union job and retired with 48 acres of America paid for.No schools taught Swedish you didnt call the phone company and press 1 for Swedish he did it the hard way.I guess if he was black or hispanic it should have probably been gave to him.We dont want to hurt anyones feelings nowdays but you use to have to earn your citizenship.

That was back many years ago when the white man (both imigrant and citizen) knew it was expected of him to seek out work or a trade that would better himself and support his family, without a cry to government to save his ass or give him entitlements.

Very true about the industries buying out higher priced jobs and replacing them with less paid employee's. I've seen two companies do that in this state, one is Nissan, non-union and Bridgestone Tires union.

Bridgestone cut their starting pay in half and reduced other benefits such a med. etc. basically threatened the union to either accept it or they'll move the plant further South or out of the country.

I was raised on union wages with a father who was a timber faller in SW WA and union member for many years, he started after the end of WW2. The unions forced many of the safety practices within that industry. I've seen the difference between the pay and benefits of those that were union and those that weren't.

Nissan and Bridgestone loved to see the peasants beating down the door for a job.The goverment loves to export 1 job to employ 3 in China give you a tax break to do it.Someday people will realize they should support U.S workers and pay a slightly higher price. Thier wage will increase also in the long run.If you wont buy products made in China it aint worth anything.

my grandparents came here to work at the Ford Rouge assembly plant back in 1900 from Poland. every one of my Aunts and Uncles spoke perfect english. my grandfather spoke with an accent, but learned english BEFORE he became a citizen. he couldn't even book a passage here until he had a job lined up. Ford was calling for people from everywhere to work in the foundry and assembly plant.
there is a difference between immigration and illegal trespass. check out the laws that Mexico has for illegal immigrants in their country. course no ones moving there.
i say let them have Detroit. it's so bad there now that because of budget cuts and loss of revenue and so many people have abandoned the city that they are going to wall off whole sections of it because they can't patrol it or supply services to those sections. kind of like escape from New York. they can't even sell houses for a dollar. God's honest truth.
