That was the best book Stephen King ever wrote IMO... outstanding character development a classic good vs evil story...

The first time I read it I was in college and just starting to get sick with some kind of respiratory bug... figured I'd just read a few chapters then try to go to sleep...

Next thing I knew it was getting light outside...

The mini series was pretty good... but the book was way better.

The scary part is the age of those who died-between 18 and 35-similar to the demographic hardest hit during the 1918 flu pandemic. The demographic that usually succumbs to flu are the very young and the very old, who have either compromised or undeveloped immune systems. When it hits the healthiest demographic with lethal results, then it's time to take notice.

Mike, that is exactly why the 10% lethality rate is so disturbing. When it hits the very young and the very old , the lethality rate doesn't come close to 10%.

IIRC the 1918 virus was so nasty that a bodies immune system < strongest amount young to middle aged adults> rallied so hard against it that it killed the body too... often with fluid build up in the lungs...
