Ok I sold my 280Rem to the taxidermist and thats the rifle the wife used to hunt Missouri Whitetail. So now I need to get a rifle she can shoot as most of mine have to much recoil. I guess I could down load my 270wsm or 257wby?

The rifle I am thinken about is a Montana 84M in .257 Roberts Ackley Improved.
Maybe 100gr TSX @ 3200fps?

What rifle would you go with?

Kimber Montana 338 Federal. If she can handle the recoil of a 280 Rem a 338 Federal woul be no problem and she would be all set for larger game ,Black Bear, Elk.

And Rem makes it in a Model Seven, Ruger makes it in a very small/light Compact as well.

I'd get her either a .223, 22-250, .243, .260, 257 Roberts, 25-06, .270, 7-08, .308, .338 Federal, 280...

If she can handle a .280 I'd just let her handle a schit pile of rifles and let the chambering be an after thought.

7-08 in the FW sure sounds nice though...

If you were considering a Montana I'm assuming price isn't a huge issue but for the money a Tikka T3 Lite in 7-08 would be pretty nice. And as if that round isn't pretty pleasant to shoot already I know at least Rem makes a "managed recoil" load for it.

Sounds to me you're glutton for punishment by selling "her" rifle. wink

I could like the M7, M70 FW or the Kimber Montana. Pick the caliber YOU really want. grin

When she shoots the 280 it was with lite loads 140gr tsx @ 2900fps. Amy, has shot my 270wsm M70 FeatherWeight off the bench with 140gr tsx @ 3200fps and it was way to much... frown I do like the idea of a 7-08. Not a fan of the 338Fed sorry.

Hope I can get out to Missouri next year. Love that state. Best in the midwest.

If that's Amy in your Avatar, you may need a couple spacers for proper LOP. grin

Kimber Montana in .243 would be light, trim, low-recoil and wonderfully, surprisingly effective on big game. My wife and our young kids have all shot that sort of .243 setup for deer and antelope and been very happy. There are lots of ways to go, but that sort of setup and that specific cartridge have worked extremely well for us.

She should whomp you with a knotted plow line for getting rid of "her" 280.

Let her go pick out another one.

I'm going through the same sort of thought process myself. I have seriously considered the 260 Remington, 7mm-08, and 280AI calibers in a Kimber Montana to complement my 338-06AI.

Kimber montana in .257 Roberts, would be great !
I have 2 Roberts and 1 roberts AI Nothing wrong with the AI, but I get 3140 with my 20 inch roberts and 100 grain tsx.
I don't use the AI much , but I probably should,
Its a fine rifle built on an FN side safty action, and full length bedded in a decent chunk of walnut. I think I should hace the barrel trimmed to 22 inches...tj3006

If you find a good prospect in .260 Remington, it should get serious consideration.

It's my understanding that some owners feel the Kimber is a little short for the Bob. Not that it don't work but another action could better suit the cartridge. I would love a 250AI in the Montana.

What about the stainless 25-06 sps in the classifieds? I think he is asking $500 for it. Let her pick out a swirley and bead blast the metal. That is one way to skin that cat.......
