Finialy got my Taurus 24/7 9mm!!

Wondering what ammo you prefer for home defence and for plinking!

Also would you use the same bullet for on the road defence as you would at home??

Defense? Speer GoldDot 115s.
Plinking? Rem. bulk FMJs or JHPs.

I'm not as crazed against handloads for home defense as some, but I do feel that factory is better. I like Cor-Bon's 115 +P JHP for home defense. For plinking, I like the cheapest decent 115 FMJ that I can find. I handload to the same levels for both purposes.

I like the 124 grain Speer Gold Dots in a +P loading for business.

Any cheap, jacketed ammo that functions for practice. Good luck finding some right now.

I also use the Speer 124 gr GD PLUS P in my 9mm for conceal carry load.

Used to really like the 147 gr Black Talons. Don't know if they're still available. Other than that a 124 JHP is good for defensive work, and USRA white box 115 FMJ's are good for plinking.

I do roll my own as well, and I find a 115 RN cast bullet shoots pretty accurately out of my CZ-75, but it shoots everything pretty well.

115 GD HP's for carry and plain old Win bulk 115's for practice. It'd be real hard to argue the 115 XTP's for carry also.

I shoot Rem UMCs for fun.

The CorBon DPX is my pick for self-defense. Same concept as the TSX which is a plus for penetration/expansion IMO. Here's a pic to show an example of an expanded bullet....

My Glock 17 is loaded with Winchester Ranger 127 gr +P+. Very hot bullet.

There are not a lot of pistols out there that can handle the hotter rounds such as + P + loads. One should check with the maker of your pistol before using those in your handgun.

I know quite a few of LEO's use them but most are carrying a pistol, who's manufacturer warrants against things going bad when using + P + ammo. Most CCW classes are now telling students NOT to think about using + P + rated ammo in their pistols.

Taurus guarantees +P in all their pistols.

Based on experience with my three other Taurus pistols, Taurus seems to set the sights up for lighter bullets. Might be better to see what bullet weights shoot to point of aim before you make a choice. Lots of great bullet choices including all copper, eFMJ, GoldDot/GoldenSaber/XPT hollowpoints, Hydrashocks, Hornady FlexTip and a few specialty bullets. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

A friend gathers stale watermelons from a major local grocery chain, so, I have this unlimited supply and I like to use them as one of several mediums for testing various bullets. Too, I use some ballistic gelatin and have access to a water tank that is 12' deep that allows some comparisons.

Speer Gold Dot 124 gr is hard to beat in these tests, except, for the aforementioned DPX which is absolutely amazing. Damage to watermelons with DPX is far more while wound channels in gelatin are impressive, along with penetration.

Its probably academic at best, afterall, if the shooter is accurate most PD ammo will do an exceptional job in 9mm IMO. However, I can state for the record that if you are hunting watermelon, the DPX should be your round of choice. Despite the price. It is now what I carry in my 9mm.
