Hi everyone, this is my first post. Does anyone know if Sako is still manufacturing the 85? I've been to numerous dealers here in NJ and PA and I can't seem to find any in stock and I can't place an order for one. I've been told that Sako is redesigning the 85 to make it more like the former 75? I don't know if this is true but something is definitely going on. Any info??

Jm,
don't know about your region, but I just bought a new Finnlight this week @ Cabelas in MN. was one of two NIB in 30.06. had others of different calibers. Don't know about re-design, the 85 blows the 75 away, I had a couple of the 75's. But they are pushing the A7 hard, as Sako's price point has always been brutal for a non-informed shooter. Probably just marketing technique to up sales.

The reason you are not finding any 85's is 1. the limited amount imported is sold already 2. The economy. If you want to buy one look at gunbroker. There are a few out there.

I believe its a little more than just the economy. I happen to like the 85 but many seem to prefer the 75 from what I read on most forums. Another possibility could be the ever increasing demand for the equally as accurate Tikka which sells for less than half the price of the 85. On the other hand, A7 sales are way down according to dealers around here so maybe Sako is trying to push their new addition to the line.

The selection on gunbroker is limited especially with choice of caliber

I love mine, but I think Sako is a little too proud of them.

What makes, other than just being able to go buy it...and have resale value, a Sako so special? I've shot quite a few over the years and they where all accurate rifles, to a number. I'm coming at this from a gun loony prospective, most of these types don't worry much about resale. For the coin involved I'd just have one put together and get what I want.

One of my best friends has a Finnlight and it's a great rifle. I guess I'd rather have M70 with a featherweight contour barrel in a Edge...chambered as I see fit. The weight of a Finnlight is not hard to replicate with about any action, so no expensive parts are needed.

I've got no problem with folks buying what they see fit with their own money, I just don't see the big draw at the price level.

My luck, if I spent that kind of coin on a production rifle, I'd get a dog. I'm happy with my Montana, but that was under a grand.

I respectfully disagree. For the price of a custom, you can buy 2 Sako's, or 4-5 Tikka's. A custom is not the best option, unless you're into that sort of thing, and all the bulls**t that goes along with building one. My humble opinion.

Guys,
I have had Ruger, Remington, Sako, Savage, Winchester, CZ, Borden (Alpine) and Surgeon actions and I must say that the Sakos rival the custom actions for less money. If you have never owned a Sako, you can't pass judgement on them b/c they truly are the slickest action on the market in a factory offering. Remington and the likes odn't even compare. Lastly, the accuracy of these guns are really unbelievable. For the money, they are worth it when looking at the lack of QC in other offerings today.

I've owned a Sako & they seem about average to me. I'd rather have a Remington (for accuracy)or a Mauser(for dangerous game.)

I see much better resale in production rifles compared to used custom guns. Heck, some of my old Brownings sold for what I paid new. Recently, I purchased a mint condition used Bansner Ultimate one chambered in 280AI for alot less than what Mark charges for a new one. I know Mark for many years but I refuse to spend over 5K for one of his fine rifles, even though they may be worth the price.

Yo 7STW. Not to change the thread subject, but I love the pic of the Nazi Fighter. Is it a Messershmitt or a Focker? I had a friend that got shot down twice in a bomber over Germany. I asked him what kind of a plane shot him down, a Messershmitt or a Focker. He said "they were all :"Fockers" even the Messershmitts."

Why bother posting if you have nothing intelligent to add? This is not a complicated question this time.
