EAA,has now a sisde by side rifle. One of the cartridges it comes in is in the 45-70.My question is,would I be able to shoot the {beefed up}cartridges?Such as the Buffalo Bore or the Garrett rounds.I am seriously thinking about making this purchase but I want to be able to shoot more than just the standard cartridge.

I know absolutely nothing about this rifle. You would have to contact the manufacturer to know for sure. I would imagine that it being of modern construction you could shoot heavy loads but that is strictly a WAG.

My experience with the few double rifles that I have had the privlege to fire is that they are regulated for one load and one load only. They will shoot that exact load well and any thing else that you put in them is a crap shoot. It may shoot a different load than the one it is regulated for fairly close or and most probably, it won't.

I haven't seen any EAA double rifles, but their combination guns are about the worse POS that I have seen. I won't have an EAA firearm of any kind in my home or business. I've had a couple people want me to special order them, but I've declined the business, since I don't want any after the sale problems.

The old saw; "if its too good to be true, it probably isn't", comes into play with EAA, since they look good on paper and the price is really low, but.......... IMO, they are to the gun business what the Yugo was to the car business, a bad choice at any price.

Other folks may have different opinions, but I will avoid them as I would an aroused divorcee at her 10th high school reunion.

The only ones we will sell are the short double 12's for the Cowboy shooters that want them. We do tell them that if they have problems to go back to EAA, not us. That is up front before we will order it for them.

I have got one of the short 12 guages, it works fine. The gun shop I frequent sells quite a few of them. What problems have been seen with the gun? For a $250.00 shotgun, it seems to go bang all the time and hit what I point it at. Jimmyp

I don't think it's particularly of high quality from what I've seen nor I guess are the barrels regulated to shoot to point of aim at a certain distance as are fine doubles which adds significantly to their high cost. Are there two sets of sights, one for each barrel? The workmanship and materials? Commensurate with price.
I don't know about the Garret et al loads.

Docdevil,

In most reloading manuals they print three levels of loads for the .45-70.

Level 1: Is for Trapdoor Springfields = Weak actions

level 2: Is for 1886 Win. & 1895 Marlins. = Moderately strong actions

Level 3: Ruger #1 and Siamese Mausers = Very strong actions

Now I will admit that any recently manufactured gun of modern steel is certainly stronger than a trapdoor Springfield. But, certainly a break open action is nowhere near as strong as a Ruger #1 or Siamese Mauser. And logic tells me that it's probably not as strong as a modern Lever action either. Using the aforementioned logic, I would think it advisable to stay away from the top Level 2 loads. Futher, consider that the EAA doubles are certainly along way from the top of the quality level, Therefore prudence would definitely be in order. I would definitely stay away from the "beefed up" loads. JMHO...the9.3Guy

Looked good on paper, even the reguletion adjustment thingy that they have, glad I didn't!

Docdevil--while I haven't seen the EAA double rifle, I have handled a lot of their other products, and rough would be a charitable way to describe them. I would think you should limit yourself to loads in the shotgun pressure range which would be the low end of category two above. But the set up is so crude I can't imagine it would be that much fun to play with once the new wears off. JMHO
