Me too, the wait is killing me! It is going back in the Ruger stock. I am hoping it will be here on Tuesday!

Most of the time I make barrels for 300s and 338s 23.5 or 24. On another note, I am thinking about putting together a 30-338. Do any of you fellas have a load for 190gr bullets?

Rifle arrived today...Work looks great can't wait to get out and run some boolits down the tube. Anyone have some good pet loads for 180 or 200grs?
I did order a Mickey! So much for my under $500 semi-custom.
Rifle/scope $175 sold scope -75 ____ $100
ITD 380
total $480
Now with the Mcmillan that pushes it to $905.

chugiaksmith, try a load of 74.0gr of H1000, or a load of 65.8gr of IMR 4350, or 72.5gr of H4831. That will get you on the right track, of around 2900fps. 58gscott

My favorite big 30 is my old worn out 300 H&H M-70 pre 64 with a beat up old custom stock that I made about 40 or so years ago..
It has the original 26 inch barrel and I shoot 200 gr. Noslers in it at near 300 Wby velocity with some old surplus 4831, the stuff that O'Connor loved...The old 300 H&H will do that where many of the modern 300s will not because the bullet has to be seated into the powder space with the newbie 300's....It handles well and I have never noticed the extra 2 to 4 inches made one iota of difference, hell my pocket knife it longer than that. I know the long tubes certainly benifit my off hand shooting and are a boon to me on running shots or when I'm out of air from a short sprint to the top of a hill..

Hmm... 73g H4831 SC with a 180 NPT or Hornady/Core Lokt works in both of mine for a place to start try 70 gr. They have 24 inch barrels. One is a converted Enfield, the other a commercial Mauser 98.
I still want a LW one with a 22 in barrel.
What an amazing cartridge.

It is not the best photo, but my .308NM is the second one from the top...
