Greetings, I have a rem. model 12 made in the 70's. I took it apart for cleaning and have it reassembled. The slide action works good but I can't figure out how to put the bullet carrier in properly. I know where it should but not how to put it in. Help much appreciated. Thanks, James

model 12's were not made in the 70's, they went to a 121 in the 40's some time. Unless there isa different model 12 that Im not aware of.......
If its the older ones I can help you out if needed.

Thanks for the reply. I found the answer. About the Model 12 and it's age, there is a site named "Old Guns.net" where you can look up different gun ages. Remington apparently used barrel codes. Mine is "BU" which says it's 1926 or 1971. This gun could not be from the 20's or 30's. The serial # is 683711. If you know differently I would appreciate your superior knowledge. Thanks, James

Model 12 was made 'till 1936, when it was replaced by the 121. 121 was in production 'till 1954. Nice gun! Can't help with the carrier. Have you tried www.rimfirecentral.com?

BU is a build date of Jan 1927. So if you thought this gun was built in the 70's it must be a nice one!!
So on to the issue at hand, what is wrong with the gun?

Did you mean the cartridge retainer? The little piece of metal that doesn't seem to be attached to anything? Try here, the instructions worked for my 12A http://www.wisnersinc.com/additional_info/remington_m12.htm

Yes, the cartridge retainer is the thing. Another site calls it a bullet carrier. There is nothing wrong with the rifle. It's just when taking it apart to clean it this piece fell out and I knew not from where. But I found the information and carried on. About the build date, I could not believe it was made in the 30's. It is almost new looking. Sometimes you win. Thanks for all the replies. James
